I HUNT SCALPHUNTERS!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Plot\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Joe Bass (Lancaster) is on his way to trade the furs he collected during the winter.\u00a0 Bass is stopped by Two Crows (Silvestre) and his band of Kiowas.\u00a0 Two Crows wants Bass&#8217; furs and offers him a captured slave named Joseph Lee (Davis).\u00a0 Bass wants no part of the deal.\u00a0 Two Crows and his men force the trade and ride off with the furs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bass is determined to get the furs back and wants Joseph Lee to assist.\u00a0 Before Lee was captured by the Kiowa he had been an educated house slave.\u00a0 Lee has no understanding of the wilderness or guns.\u00a0 Still, what other option does he have?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As Joe Bass and Joseph Lee prepare for battle with the Kiowa, a ruthless group of scalphunters joins the action.\u00a0 Outnumbered and outgunned, Joe Bass is determined to get his furs back&#8230; even if it kills him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong style=\"font-size: inherit; color: var(--text-color); font-family: var(--text-font);\">Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I was surprised by the humor in <em>The Scalphunters<\/em>.\u00a0 I was expecting a grim late 60s western.\u00a0 The opening scenes are funny and as I adjusted my expectations, a surprisingly brutal and graphic (for the time period) event happens.\u00a0 There is a nice mix of humor and drama that ends up leaning more into the comedy by the time the movie is ready to end.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ossie Davis is a scene stealer.\u00a0 He and Burt Lancaster had great chemistry.\u00a0 Sequels weren&#8217;t as rampant then or I&#8217;m sure we&#8217;d have had more of these two.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Shelly Winters and Telly Savalas make for a believable couple.\u00a0 Look for Dabney Coleman as one of Savalas&#8217; henchmen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: inherit; color: var(--text-color); font-family: var(--text-font);\"><strong><em>The Scalphunters <\/em><\/strong>(1968) rates 3 of 5 stars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/logo\/zview_c.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2023\/z032523zview_scalphunters2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"232\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Scalphunters (1968) Director: Sydney Pollack Writer:\u00a0 William W.
