Earlier this evening, Walter Cronkite<\/strong> died after a long illness. Mr. Cronkite<\/strong> was 92<\/strong>. From April 16, 1962<\/strong> to March 6, 1981<\/strong>, Walter Cronkite<\/strong> was the anchor of the CBS Evening News<\/strong>.\u00a0 Although it may be hard to imagine in this age of cable news where anchors are “entertainers” who consider their opinions to be more important than the facts, Walter Cronkite<\/strong> was,\u00a0for most of America<\/strong>, the voice of reason.<\/p>\n

Often called “The Most Trusted Man in America”<\/strong>, it was Walter Cronkite<\/strong> that we turned to when we needed the news.\u00a0 During his tenure Mr. Cronkite<\/strong> covered the assassinations of President Kennedy<\/strong>, Martin Luter King, Jr.<\/strong> and Bobby Kennedy<\/strong>, the Vietnam war<\/strong>, the triumphs and tragedies of our space program, Three Mile Island<\/strong>, elections of Presidents<\/strong>, Watergate<\/strong> and so much more.<\/p>\n

The year that he retired, Mr. Cronkite<\/strong> received our contry’s highest civilian honor,\u00a0the Presidential Medal of Freedom<\/strong>.\u00a0 The tributes to Mr. Cronkite<\/strong> are coming in from around the world.\u00a0 The world!\u00a0 Twentyeight years after he left the nightly broadcast booth, Walter Cronkite’s positive impact<\/strong> is still felt!<\/p>\n
