Staggering!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Plot\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The year is 1937.\u00a0 Jill Young is an eight year old living on her father&#8217;s small estate in Africa.\u00a0 Jill is in the front yard when two Africans pass by carrying an orphaned baby gorilla.\u00a0 Jill makes a trade and becomes the owner of the infant gorilla.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Twelve years pass.\u00a0 Max O&#8217;Hara (Armstong) has organized an African safari to capture lions for his nightclub show.\u00a0 Greg (Johnson) is a cowboy who leads the group capturing the beasts.\u00a0 They are about to leave when they spot a giant gorilla.\u00a0 Max and Greg try to capture the huge ape but they only end up angering it.\u00a0 Jill shows up and calms her now grown gorilla.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Soon enough Max convinces Jill if she comes to Hollywood with her giant ape, they will become famous with everything money can buy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What could go wrong?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong style=\"font-size: inherit; color: var(--text-color); font-family: var(--text-font);\"><strong style=\"font-size: inherit; color: var(--text-color); font-family: var(--text-font);\">Thoughts (beware of spoilers)<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Mighty Joe Young<\/em> won the <em>Academy Award<\/em> for <em>Best Visual Effects<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I first saw <em>Mighty Joe Young<\/em> when I was a child.\u00a0 I loved it then,\u00a0 I&#8217;ve rewatched it several times over the years and I still love it.\u00a0 How could you not?\u00a0 It has a misunderstood monster (Joe), lions fighting Joe, cowboys!, a test of strength between 10 strong men and Mighty Joe, a love story, and redemption.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The strong men who try Mighty Joe in tug of war include former world heavyweight boxing champion Primo Canera and nine professional wrestlers.\u00a0 One of them was Sam Menacker.\u00a0 I knew Mr. Menacker because he was the color commentator for professional wrestling in Indiana.\u00a0 Menacker was a former wrestler himself.\u00a0 I thought it was so cool to a young <em>Slammin&#8217; Sammy Menacker<\/em> in a movie!<\/p>\n<p>This was the first film to feature Ray Harryhausen&#8217;s stop-motion animation effects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: var(--text-color); font-family: var(--text-font); font-size: inherit; text-align: justify;\"><strong><em style=\"font-size: inherit; color: var(--text-color); font-family: var(--text-font);\">Mighty Joe Young <\/em><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: inherit; color: var(--text-color); font-family: var(--text-font);\">(1949)<\/span> rates 5 of 5 stars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/logo\/zview_a.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2023\/z081623zview_mightyjoeyoung2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"368\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mighty Joe Young (1949) Director: Merian C.
