Carter, Kenneth McMillan, Edward Bunker, Reid Cruickshanks, John Bloom, Danny Trejo, <\/strong> Tom ‘Tiny’ Lister, Dennis Franz <\/strong>and Hank Worden.<\/strong><\/p>\n Tagline: Once it starts, nothing can stop it!<\/em><\/p>\n The Plot\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n Stonehaven Maximum Security Prison is located in the remote Alaskan wilderness.\u00a0 “Manny” Manheim (Voight) is a hardened convict. For the last three years Manny has lived in solitary confinement at the order of\u00a0 Warden Ranken (Ryan).\u00a0 Rankin hates Manny because he is a hero to the other inmates, is an escape risk (two attempts so far) and he cannot be broken.\u00a0 When a court order forces Rankin to release Manny from solitary, Rankin’s hatred for Manny grows.<\/p>\n Soon Manny has a plan for escape.\u00a0 Manny and a young convict named Buck (Roberts) make it out.\u00a0 In a rail yard, they see a train of four cars slowly pulling away.\u00a0 Once on board, Manny and Buck think they’re home free.\u00a0 When the engineer has a heart attack, the train continues to pick up speed, burning off the brakes in the process.\u00a0 Now Manny, Buck and one other person yet to be discovered are on a runaway train.\u00a0 There’s no way to stop it,\u00a0 Jumping from the train would be suicide.<\/p>\n Let the action begin!<\/p>\n Thoughts (beware of spoilers)<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n Runaway Train\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>was nominated for three Academy Awards<\/em>:<\/p>\n Akira Kurosawa originally planned to make Runaway Train<\/em> in the 1960s!\u00a0 His intended stars were Lee Marvin and Henry Fonda.\u00a0 The script was dusted off in 1982 and Cannon Films backed the revised movie.<\/p>\n Runaway Train<\/em> features the film debuts of Danny Trejo and Tim “Tiny” Lester.\u00a0 Dennis Franz also appears uncredited as a cop.<\/p>\n Danny Trejo got the job thanks to Eddie Bunker.\u00a0 Bunker recognized Trejo who was on set visiting a production assistant.\u00a0 Both Trejo and Bunker (who co-wrote and appears in the film) served time together at San Quentin. Bunker got Trejo a job as an extra and boxing coach to Eric Roberts.\u00a0 Trejo said that the $320 a day salary was more than he ever made from any of his robberies.<\/p>\n Runaway Train\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>features my favorite performances by Jon Voight, Eric Roberts and Rebecca De Mornay.\u00a0 John P.
