Kenneth Partridge at Mental Floss posted The Greatest Night in Pop: 10 Facts About the Making of \u201cWe Are the World<\/em>\u201d.<\/a>\u00a0It takes you behind the scenes of who wanted in, who was not invited, and more.\u00a0 It’s well worth a read.\u00a0 Before you click over, here are three of my favorite facts and my thoughts on each.<\/p>\n

Prince was notably absent from the proceedings.\u00a0<\/strong> (According to Partridge, “His (Prince’s) absence likely had something to do with his rivalry with Michael Jackson.”\u00a0 It’s unfortunate that Prince didn’t participate.\u00a0 It would have been the icing on the cake. – Craig<\/em>)<\/p>\n

Madonna was also missing\u2014though not by choice.<\/strong> (According to Partridge the organizers didn’t think she could sing.\u00a0 Madonna apparently carried a grudge of not being invited.\u00a0 She “opted not to join the ‘We Are the World’ finale” at Live Aide. – Craig<\/em>)<\/p>\n

Not everyone liked \u201cWe Are the World.\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 (And we’re talking about those who performed on the recording! Billy Joel was quoted as saying, “I don’t think anybody liked it… There was a lot of side-eye.”\u00a0 Cyndi Lauper thought the song sounded like a Pepsi commercial.\u00a0 Hopefully opinions changed when they saw the good the proceeds did. – Craig<\/em>)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
