After several drinks Jeff decides to ask Margo&#8217;s father for permission to marry her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jeff arrives at Lannington&#8217;s mansion.\u00a0 He is invited in by Margo&#8217;s father (Reins) who listens to Jeff speak about his whirlwind romance of Margo.\u00a0 Margo enters the room and is surprised to see Jeff.\u00a0 She tells him to leave.\u00a0 Jeff says, that he&#8217;s there to ask her father for permission to marry her.\u00a0 Margo&#8217;s father says, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know why you kept calling me her father.\u00a0 I&#8217;m her husband.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jeff is shocked. Margo says she loves Jeff, but he&#8217;s upset because she lied to him.\u00a0 As he walks out, Jeff hears Margo scream.\u00a0 He runs back in.\u00a0 Margo is on the floor.\u00a0 She&#8217;s obviously been struck by her husband.\u00a0 Jeff and the husband struggle.\u00a0 Jeff is struck several times with fireplace poker, but manages to knock her husband unconscious.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jeff leaves the room to get a bandage for his head.\u00a0 When Jeff returns he&#8217;s shocked to find that Margo&#8217;s husband isn&#8217;t knocked out.\u00a0 He&#8217;s dead.\u00a0 Jeff wants to call the police, but Margo convinces him that they&#8217;d never believe it was self-defense.\u00a0 They had been seen dating and no court would believe their story.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Reluctantly, Jeff leaves with Margo.\u00a0 Their plan is to cross into Mexico and escape.\u00a0 But like the best laid plans&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong style=\"font-size: inherit; color: var(--text-color); font-family: var(--text-font);\">Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Before Jeff meets Margo, he&#8217;s dating Julie Dorn (O&#8217;Sullivan).\u00a0 Despite dumping her, going on the run and being wanted for murder, she immediately takes him back.\u00a0 It didn&#8217;t ring true, but it did give the movie a happy ending.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Maureen O&#8217;Sullivan was director, John Farrow&#8217;s wife.
