{"id":35617,"date":"2024-04-16T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-16T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=35617"},"modified":"2024-04-11T21:37:54","modified_gmt":"2024-04-12T01:37:54","slug":"homicidal-1961-directed-by-william-castle-z-view","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=35617","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Homicidal&#8221; (1961) directed by William Castle \/ Z-View"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2024\/z041624zview_homicidal.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"395\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Homicidal <\/strong><\/em>(1961)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Director: <strong>\u00a0William Castle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Screenplay: <strong>Robb White<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Stars: <strong>Glenn Corbett, Patricia Breslin, James Westerfield, Gilbert Green, Joan Marshall, Ralph Moody, &#8216;Snub&#8217; Pollard, Hope Summers <\/strong>and <strong>William Castle.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tagline: <em>SPECIAL &#8220;FRIGHT BREAK&#8221; * There will be a special FRIGHT BREAK during the showing of &#8220;Homicidal.&#8221; Can your heart stand the challenge when the clock starts the COUNTDOWN?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Plot&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A woman claiming to be Miriam Webster offers a bellman $2,000.00 to marry her.\u00a0 She says that they can annul the marriage right after the ceremony.\u00a0 The bellman agrees.\u00a0 The next night they go to a Justice of the Peace.\u00a0 After he performs the ceremony the woman pulls out a long knife and repeatedly stabs him to death.\u00a0 The woman then runs off into the night.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The police quickly clear the real Miriam Webster (Breslin).\u00a0 They learn that Miriam and her brother, Warren, are about to inherit a fortune due to their father&#8217;s death.\u00a0 More murders will occur before the secrets that they are hiding will be discovered.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong style=\"font-size: inherit; color: var(--text-color); font-family: var(--text-font);\">Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">William Castle was known for his gimmick films.\u00a0 Three examples include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The Tingler<\/em>, he had small electric jolts and\/or vibrators in some theater seats<\/li>\n<li>Mr. Sardonicus, audience members were given glow in the dark cards to vote on the movie&#8217;s ending<\/li>\n<li><em>House on Haunted Hill<\/em>, a flying skeleton flew across the theater<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For <em>Homicidal<\/em>, William Castle had a <em>&#8220;Fright Break&#8221;<\/em> prior to the ending of the film.\u00a0 Audience members too frightened to stay for the end had 45 seconds (a timer appeared on the movie screen) to leave the theater. They would go to the <em>&#8220;Coward&#8217;s Corner&#8221;<\/em> in the lobby.\u00a0 There they had to sign a certificate verifying they were indeed a coward.\u00a0 Very few patrons took up the offer, but it was a great selling point.\u00a0 THAT wasn&#8217;t the best gimmick of <em>Homicidal<\/em>.\u00a0 SPOILER ALERT &#8211; it will be discussed below.<\/p>\n<p><em>Homicidal<\/em> cashed in on the success of Alfred Hitchcock&#8217;s <em>Psycho<\/em> which was released the year before.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Joan Marshall played both Emily and Warren.
