Sugar: Season 1<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>(2024)<\/p>\n Created by: Mark Protosevich<\/strong><\/p>\n Director: Fernando Meirelles <\/strong>(Eps. 1-2, 5-6, 8); Adam Arkin<\/strong> (Eps. 3-4, 7)<\/p>\n Teleplay: Mark Protosevich<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(Eps. 1-2, 5); Mark Protosevich <\/strong>and David Rosen<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong> (Ep. 3); Mark Protosevich <\/strong>and Donald Joh<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(Ep. 4); Donald Joh <\/strong>and Sam Catlin<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(Eps. 6-8)<\/p>\n Stars: Colin Farrell, Kirby, Amy Ryan, Dennis Boutsikaris<\/strong>, Nate Corddry, James Cromwell, Miguel Sandoval, Jon Beavers, Darwin Shaw, Julia Belanova, Jordan Bielsky, Jason Butler Harner, Scott Lawrence, Adrian Martinez, Ben Mankiewicz, Paul Schulze, Julie Dretzin, Jaime Alvarez, Emil Beheshti, Massi Furlan, Cameron Cowperthwaite, Matthew Arkin, Christopher Carrington, Zachary Cowan <\/strong>and Anna Gunn<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n Tagline: The wrong way is the only way out.<\/em><\/p>\n The Plot…<\/strong><\/p>\n John Sugar (Farrell) is a private eye.\u00a0 He loves old noir movies and his ’66 Corvette Stingray convertible.\u00a0 Sugar’s specialty is finding missing people.\u00a0 He’s very good at it.\u00a0 Perhaps Sugar’s drive comes from the fact that his sister went missing.\u00a0 She was never found.<\/p>\n Sugar has been hired by legendary movie producer Jonathan Siegel (Cromwell).\u00a0 Siegel’s granddaughter, Olivia has disappeared.\u00a0 Olivia’s father Bernie (Boutsikaris), a famous director, thinks that she’s runaway again with her druggie friends.\u00a0 He reasons she’ll turn up safe and sound because she always does.<\/p>\n As Sugar digs into the case, he discovers secrets that the wealthy Siegel family wouldn’t want revealed.\u00a0 Of course Sugar has secrets of his own.\u00a0 Despite several sources telling Sugar to drop the case, he refuses.<\/p>\n As Sugar gets closer to the truth, others are getting closer to his secrets…<\/p>\n Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n Sugar<\/em> is modern noir with a twist.\u00a0 It’s stylish and smart.\u00a0 The audience’s intelligence is respected.\u00a0 Other shows would take a totally different approach to the material and it wouldn’t be near as good.<\/p>\n Every thing about Sugar<\/strong> is top notch.\u00a0 It’s well written, well directed and the actors are at the top of their game.\u00a0 Colin Farrell is perfectly cast as John Sugar.<\/p>\n Mark Protosevich is Sugar<\/em>‘s creator and he also wrote most of the episodes.\u00a0 Protosevich is known for his screenplays for The Cell<\/em> (very underrated), Poseidon, I am Legend<\/em> and Oldboy<\/em> (2013).<\/p>\n There is a major twist that comes over halfway through the season. Mark Protosevich allowed hints throughout the previous episodes, but didn’t provide the reveal until the end of episode six.\u00a0 I loved it!
