He refuses to murder women, children and men undeserving to die.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Miguel Bain (Banderas) is an assassin who loves his job&#8230; he wants to be the best hitman in the world.\u00a0 Bain considers Rath number one&#8230; for now.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As Rath prepares to take out a mark, he is shocked when Bain assassinates his target.\u00a0 The two exchange gunfire until the police arrive.\u00a0 Rath realizes that Bain is determined to kill him.\u00a0 He also learns that Bain&#8217;s other target is a woman known as Electra (Moore).\u00a0 \u00a0Rath plans to save Electra and eliminate Bain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Of course Bain has other plans&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Wachowski&#8217;s sold their <em>Assassins<\/em> screenplay to Joel Silver at the same time he bought their screenplay for <em>The Matrix<\/em> (for one million dollars each).\u00a0 Silver wanted Richard Donner to direct and offered him ten million dollars.\u00a0 Donner refused unless the screenplay&#8217;s violence was toned down and Rath was made more sympathetic.\u00a0 Silver brought in Brian (<em>L.A. Confidential<\/em>) Helgeland to adjust the script.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Wachowski&#8217;s didn&#8217;t like the changes and asked for their names to be removed from the credits.\u00a0 The request was denied by the Writers Guild Association.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Donner <a href=\"https:\/\/scrapsfromtheloft.com\/movies\/in-conversation-with-richard-donner-director-2006\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">praised Stallone and Banderas<\/a> for their performances: &#8220;I thought Stallone did one of the best jobs he\u2019s ever done. He totally underplayed, he was quiet, he found the character and he went with it. I thought Antonio Banderas was wonderful.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Electra&#8217;s cat is the same feline that appeared with Stallone in <em>The Specialist<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I am a huge fan of the opening scene when Rath is walking an assassin deep into a swamp to execute him.
