The Overview:\u00a0 Beware of Spoilers\u2026<\/p>\n

Eight junior executives at a tech company are selected to attend a wilderness retreat.\u00a0 The trip is billed as a team building exercise.\u00a0 Not everyone believes it.\u00a0 There are four opportunities for promotion coming up.\u00a0 There are eight employees attending.\u00a0 Do the math.<\/p>\n

The drive takes them six and a half hours into the wilderness.\u00a0 We’re talking remote.\u00a0 No cell reception.\u00a0 No other people.\u00a0 No roads once they’re in.\u00a0 Although there will be guides going along, no one could have foreseen the accident.\u00a0 And who would have guessed that the guides would be killed?<\/p>\n

The eight are lost.\u00a0 Little water.\u00a0 Few supplies.\u00a0 They won’t be missed for days.\u00a0 They may not survive that long.\u00a0 As the hours pass, civility is gone.\u00a0 No one knows the right thing to do.\u00a0 Move on.\u00a0 Wait for help?\u00a0 Tension mounts as tempers rise.<\/p>\n

Eight went in.\u00a0 Five came out.\u00a0 What happened to the three that didn’t make it?\u00a0 The survivors have a secret.\u00a0 And you know what they say about a secret… “Three can keep a secret if two of them are dead.”\u00a0 Five, not three came back.<\/p>\n

I’m a huge fan of Eric Beetner’s novels. Each new novel is an automatic pick-up.\u00a0 Most of his stories are crime yarns.\u00a0 THERE AND BACK involves crime, but at it’s heart is the mystery of what happened and the survivors’ secret.\u00a0 THERE AND BACK is an ambitious work and Beetner pulls it off.<\/p>\n
