{"id":37122,"date":"2024-09-30T19:33:55","date_gmt":"2024-09-30T23:33:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=37122"},"modified":"2024-09-30T19:33:55","modified_gmt":"2024-09-30T23:33:55","slug":"rip-kris-kristofferson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=37122","title":{"rendered":"RIP: Kris Kristofferson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2024\/z093024rip_kris_kristofferson.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"380\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Kris Kristofferson died peacefully at his home on September 28, 2024.\u00a0 Mr. Kristofferson was 88.\u00a0 No cause of death was given.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After graduating high school Kris Kristofferson enrolled in Pomona College in California.\u00a0 He hoped to become a writer.\u00a0 Mr. Kristofferson excelled in football, rugby, as well as track and field while at Pomona.\u00a0 Because of his athletic prowess, Kris Kristofferson was featured in the March 31, 1958 edition of Sports Illustrated.\u00a0 Mr. Kristofferson graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in literature.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Kris Kristofferson was then awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to the University of Oxford.\u00a0 While there he achieved honors in rugby and boxing.\u00a0 It was at this point that Mr. Kristofferson began writing and recording songs with Top Rank Records under the name Kris Carson.\u00a0 Due to the lack of success with this venture, Mr. Kristofferson enlisted in the U.S. Army.<\/p>\n<p>While in the service Mr. Kristofferson completed Ranger school, became a helicopter pilot and earned the rank of Captain.\u00a0 He also continued performing with a band when possible.\u00a0 When his enlistment was coming to an end, Mr. Kristofferson was given the opportunity to teach at West Point.\u00a0 He instead opted to leave the service and move to Nashville.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Kris Krisofferson continued to work at odd jobs and later as a helicopter pilot while he pursued a music career.\u00a0 Within a few years singers such as Ray Stevens, Jerry Lee Lewis and Roger Miller began recording Mr. Kristofferson&#8217;s songs.\u00a0 Mr. Kristofferson also got his own recording contract.\u00a0 In 1971, Kris Kristofferson&#8217;s album Me &amp; Bobby McGee became a hit.\u00a0 It was also the same year that Mr. Kristofferson made his feature film debut.\u00a0 For the remainder of his career, Kris Kristofferson performed as a singer, song writer, as well as an actor in feature films and television.<\/p>\n<p>Kris Kristofferson&#8217;s awards and honors include&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1970 <em>CMA<\/em>\u00a0winner &#8211;
