{"id":37128,"date":"2024-10-01T17:11:03","date_gmt":"2024-10-01T21:11:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=37128"},"modified":"2024-10-01T17:12:55","modified_gmt":"2024-10-01T21:12:55","slug":"rip-pete-rose","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=37128","title":{"rendered":"RIP: Pete Rose"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2024\/z100124rip_pete_rose.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Pete Rose died yesterday.\u00a0 No cause of death was given.\u00a0 Mr. Rose was 83.<\/p>\n<p>Pete Rose played professional baseball for 23 years&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cincinnati Reds (1963\u20131978)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit; color: initial;\">Philadelphia Phillies (1979\u20131983)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit; color: initial;\">Montreal Expos (1984)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit; color: initial;\">Cincinnati Reds (1984\u20131986)<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit; color: initial;\">As manager for the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit; color: initial;\">Cincinnati Reds (1984\u20131989)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pete Rose&#8217;s Honors and Awards&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>17 time All-Star Team (1965, 1967\u20131971, 1973\u20131982, 1985)<\/li>\n<li>3 time World Series champion (1975, 1976, 1980)<\/li>\n<li>National League Most Valuable Player (1973)<\/li>\n<li>World Series Most Valuable Payer (1975)<\/li>\n<li>National League Rookie of the Year (1963)<\/li>\n<li>2 time Gold Glove Award (1969, 1970)<\/li>\n<li>Silver Slugger Award (1981)<\/li>\n<li>Roberto Clemente Award (1976)<\/li>\n<li>3 time National League batting champion (1968, 1969, 1973)<\/li>\n<li>Cincinnati Reds retired his No. 14<\/li>\n<li>Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame<\/li>\n<li>Major League Baseball All-Century Team<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pete Rose holds Major League Baseball records for&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hits: 4,256<\/li>\n<li>Games Played: 3,562<\/li>\n<li>At-Bats: 14,053<\/li>\n<li>Singles: 3,215<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For all of these achievements and records that he still holds, Pete Rose is not in Baseball&#8217;s Hall of Fame.\u00a0 The reason: Pete Rose bet on baseball.\u00a0 Although he denied allegations, there was enough evidence to support the charges.\u00a0 Pete Rose was banned from baseball and made ineligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr. Rose finally admitted admitted that in addition to betting on horse racing, basketball and other things, he did bet on baseball.\u00a0 Pete Rose claimed that he only bet on his team to win.\u00a0 Still baseball players are not allowed to bet on baseball.\u00a0 So Pete Rose was made ineligible for the Hall of Fame, despite many requests for reconsideration over the years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I had always hoped that Pete Rose would make it into the Hall of Fame during his life.\u00a0 You would think that these days where every sporting event has commercials for legalized betting and Major League Baseball is entering partnerships with sports betting services, the attitude toward Mr. Rose would have changed.\u00a0 I am not in any way defending Pete Rose&#8217;s lying about betting.\u00a0 Nor am I saying that he shouldn&#8217;t have faced a severe penalty for violating baseball&#8217;s rules against betting.\u00a0 What I am saying is, Pete Rose belongs in the Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When I was a little kid growing up in Terre Haute, Indiana, the Cincinnati Reds were my favorite team.\u00a0 I loved watching Pete Rose play.\u00a0 He always gave it his all more than earning the nickname <em>Charlie Hustle<\/em>. Pete Rose was still playing and at the top of his game when I graduated high school and headed into college.\u00a0 What a career!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Our thoughts and prayers go out to Pete Rose&#8217;s family, fans and friends.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pete Rose died yesterday.\u00a0 No cause of death was given.\u00a0 Mr. Rose was 83.
