The Plot…<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Samantha Caine (Davis) is a small town schoolteacher.\u00a0 Life is quiet.\u00a0 Life is good.\u00a0 Samantha is happy.\u00a0 She lives with her daughter and boyfriend.\u00a0 Samantha has come a long way in eight years.\u00a0 That was when she was found on a Jersey beach, pregnant and with no memory of her past.<\/p>\n

At first Samantha hired the best detectives to try to discover her past. They all struck out. Mitch Henessey (Jackson) is a shady PI.\u00a0 Mitch lucked onto a suitcase with info that may help Samantha.<\/p>\n

Samantha is shocked when a crazed convict breaks into her house to kill her.\u00a0 Samantha is even more dumbfounded by the fighting skills she didn’t know she had. The killer calls Samantha by a different name.\u00a0 He obviously knew her.\u00a0 In a fight to the death Samantha wins.<\/p>\n

Mitch shows up.\u00a0 Samantha and Mitch decide to follow the clues the suitcase provides.\u00a0 Samantha will discover the truth to her past.\u00a0 The people that thought Samantha was dead will realize the job needs to be finished.<\/p>\n

Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Long Kiss Goodnight<\/em> came at the right time.\u00a0 Writer Shane Black was at the top of his game.\u00a0 His screenplay provides the right mix of over-the-top action and humor.\u00a0 Director Renny Harlin was also killing it.\u00a0 He’s supported by a great cast.\u00a0 Gena Davis is perfect as the school teacher\/assassin.\u00a0 Samuel L. Jackson wasn’t yet THE Samuel L. Jackson and is perfect as the guy who just wants to do one thing right.\u00a0 Kudos to Craig Bierko for owning all of his scenes.\u00a0 Brian Cox and David Morse are also perfectly cast.<\/p>\n

Samuel L. Jackson has said that this was his favorite role.<\/p>\n

Gena Davis and Renny Harlin were married when this film was made.<\/p>\n

The Long Kiss Goodnight\u00a0<\/em>was ahead of it’s time.\u00a0 Now female action heroes are fairly common, but this was a groundbreaking role by Gena Davis.<\/p>\n
