Teri Garr died today due to complications from multiple sclerosis.\u00a0 Ms. Garr was 79.<\/p>\n
Teri Garr’s parents were both in showbusiness.\u00a0 Her father was an actor\/comedian.\u00a0 Ms. Garr’s mother was a model, dancer and costumer.\u00a0 As a young girl Teri Garr studied dance with a focus on ballet.<\/p>\n
Ms. Garr graduated from North Hollywood High School.\u00a0 She then attended San Fernando Valley State College, but dropped out after two years.\u00a0 Teri Garr moved to New York City.\u00a0 She studied at the Actors Studio and the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute while pursuing an acting career.<\/p>\n
Teri Garr’s first roles were often uncredited roles in films and television as a background or go-go dancer. 1968 was a big year for Teri Garr.\u00a0 She received a feature role on Star Trek<\/em> in the episode Assignment Earth<\/em>.\u00a0 Ms. Garr earned her first feature film speaking role in The Monkees movie Head<\/em>.\u00a0 Jack Nicholson wrote the film and knew Teri Garr since they were in the same acting class.<\/p>\n Teri Garr is probably best known for her roles in Young Frankenstein; Close Encounters of the Third Kind; Tootsie<\/em> and Mr. Mom<\/em>.\u00a0 Ms. Garr was nominated for an Academy Award<\/em> as Best Supporting Actress<\/em> for her work in Tootsie<\/em>.\u00a0 Throughout her career Teri Garr worked on television, in feature films as well as theater throughout her career.<\/p>\n In 2002, Teri Garr announced that she had multiple sclerosis.
