{"id":37549,"date":"2024-11-04T17:31:51","date_gmt":"2024-11-04T22:31:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=37549"},"modified":"2024-11-04T17:32:38","modified_gmt":"2024-11-04T22:32:38","slug":"37549","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=37549","title":{"rendered":"RIP: Quincy Jones"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2024\/z110424rip_quincy_jones.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"454\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Quincy Jones died yesterday at the age of 91.\u00a0 No cause of death was given.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Quincy Jones loved music from an early age.\u00a0 In high school Mr. Jones played trumpet and arranged music.\u00a0 After high school Quincy Jones received a scholarship to Seattle University.\u00a0 He left after one semester with a scholarship to attend Boston&#8217;s Berklee&#8217;s College of Music.\u00a0 Mr. Jones left college to tour with Lionel Hampton&#8217;s band as a pianist and trumpeter.\u00a0 It was on this tour that Quincy Jones began to get a reputation for his musical arrangements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After the tour, Mr. Jones worked creating musical arrangements for stars such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Gene Kupra and Sarah Vaughn.\u00a0 Quincy Jones continued to take freelance arrangement jobs and he toured with several bands.\u00a0 He then took a job as musical director of Mercury Records New York division.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 1961, two things happened:\u00a0 He became the Vice President of Mercury Records and was hired to compose the music for <em>The Pawnbroker<\/em>.\u00a0 Quincy Jones became so in demand to produce music for movies that he left Mercury Records.\u00a0 For the remainder of his career Quincy Jones wrote, performed, arranged and produced music for films, television, records and live performances.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some of Quincy Jones composer credits include: <em>The Pawnbroker; Mirage; The Slender Thread; Bob Hope Presents the Chrysler Theatre; Walk Don&#8217;t Run; The Deadly Affair; Enter Laughing; Ironside<\/em> (movie); <em>Hey Landlord<\/em> (7 episodes);<em> In the Heat of the Night; In Cold Blood;\u00a0 Ironside<\/em> (12 episodes); <em>The Split; McKenna&#8217;s Gold; The Italian Job; Bob &amp; Carol &amp; Ted &amp; Alice; John and Mary; Catus Flower; The Out of Towners; They Call Me Mister Tibbs!; The Bill Cosby Show<\/em> (52 episodes); <em>The Anderson Tapes; The Hot Rock; The New Centurians; The Getaway; Roots<\/em> (2 episodes) and <em>The Color Purple.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Quincy Jones was nominated for 9 Academy Awards and won 2:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1968 Nominee: <em>Best Music, Original Song &#8211;
