This Christmas will be different.<\/em><\/p>\n The Plot…<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Christmas Eve.\u00a0 Ethan Kopek (Egerton) and his girlfriend Nora (Carson) just found out they’re going to have a baby.\u00a0 They plan to marry.\u00a0 Nora is in management for an airline.\u00a0 Ethan is a TSA agent at the same airport.\u00a0 Life is good.<\/p>\n Ethan and Nora arrive at the airport full of travelers.\u00a0 They kiss and head to their jobs.\u00a0 Ethan talks to his supervisor about a promotion.\u00a0 Ethan’s boss is open to the suggestion.\u00a0 He moves Ethan to a new position — running a baggage-scanning lane.\u00a0 Things are hectic but going well… until Ethan is given an earbud that he’s told to wear.<\/p>\n Ethan hears a voice telling him that him being moved to the new position is unfortunate.\u00a0 Ethan has a choice, let a specific carry-on case pass through or Nora will be killed.\u00a0 Ethan is shocked.\u00a0 How can they know about Nora so quickly?\u00a0 The voice says that Ethan and Nora are being watched.\u00a0 Any attempt to contact the authorities or anyone and Nora dies.\u00a0 The voice tells Ethan, “all you have to do is nothing.”<\/p>\n Ethan quickly learns that they are watching his every move.\u00a0 When Ethan gets a message to one of his co-workers, the man is killed before he can read it.\u00a0 Ethan realizes he is in way over his head.<\/p>\n If he doesn’t do as told, Nora dies.\u00a0 If he allows the carry-on through, an airplane full of Christmas travelers will die.<\/p>\n The clock is ticking.<\/p>\n Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n The Carry-On<\/em> is an intelligent thriller that is well directed and well cast.<\/p>\n Kudos to writer T.J. Fixman for creating an action picture that doesn’t depend on anyone (hero or villain) doing something stupid for the film to work.\u00a0 This is T.J. Fixman’s first live action script.\u00a0 I look forward to his next.<\/p>\n Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman make great adversaries.\u00a0 Kudos also to Danielle Deadwyler and Theo Rossi – they elevate every scene they’re in. It was nice seeing Dean (Breaking Bad)<\/em> Norris and Benito (The Shield<\/em>) Martinez is supporting roles.<\/p>\n The Carry-On<\/em> is surprisingly good.<\/p>\n The Carry-On <\/i>(2024) <\/em><\/strong>rates 5 of 5 stars.<\/span><\/p>\n The Carry-On (2024) Director: \u00a0Jaume Collet-Serra Screenplay: \u00a0T.J.
