Haunted&#8230;By a lovely girl!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The Plot&#8230;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">World War 2 is over.\u00a0 Vienna is divided into five occupation zones\u2014one zone for each of the Allied powers and one international zone.\u00a0 The black market thrives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Holly Martins (Cotten) comes to Allied-occupied Vienna.\u00a0 Martins has been promised a job by his good friend, Harry Lime (Welles).\u00a0 Martins is shocked to learn that Harry was killed crossing the street when he was hit by a car.\u00a0 Still reeling from the news, Martins attends Harry&#8217;s funeral.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Afterwards, Martins talks to different people and their stories don&#8217;t add up.\u00a0 Martins then goes to the Allied Authority,\u00a0Major Calloway (Howard) and demands an investigation into Harry&#8217;s death.\u00a0 Major Calloway informs Martins that Harry Lime was involved in the black market.\u00a0 Lime was behind the theft of penicillin from military hospitals.\u00a0 Lime diluted the medicine until it had to curative effect.\u00a0 Lime then sold it on the black market at outrageous prices.\u00a0 Because of the dilution, dozens of people, many children died.\u00a0 If Lime had lived he was about to be arrested.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At first Martins doesn&#8217;t believe Major Calloway&#8230; but the evidence is there.\u00a0 His childhood friend, Harry Lime had become a despicable person responsible for the death of many including little children.\u00a0 That night as Martins walks a deserted street across the way he sees Harry Lime.\u00a0 Martins calls out, but Harry runs away.<\/p>\n<p>Determined to get to the bottom of this Martins makes it his mission to find Harry&#8230; even if it kills him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The Third Man<\/em> was nominated for three 1951 <em>Academy Awards<\/em> and won one&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nominee for <em>Best Film Editing<\/em> &#8211; <strong>Oswald Hafenrichter<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Nominee for <em>Best Director<\/em> &#8211;<strong> Carol Reed<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Winner for <em>Best Cinematography, Black-and-White<\/em> &#8211; <strong>Robert Krasker<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Orson Welles was concerned that filming in real sewers would make him sick.\u00a0 His close-ups were done in a studio with long shots in a sewer feature a body double.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Welles was offered a straight salary or a percentage of the profits.\u00a0 He opted for a straight salary.\u00a0 Because the film was so successful, Welles would have made much more with a percentage of profits.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The film was popular during it&#8217;s initial release, was nominated for three Academy Awards and remains popular to this day.\u00a0 It currently has an 8.1\/10 score on IMDb.\u00a0 At RottenTomatoes it has a 99% rating from reviewers and 93% from all users.<\/p>\n<p>Although Orson Welles is the film&#8217;s star, he finished his part in one week of filming.\u00a0 He doesn&#8217;t show up in the movie until the movie is 2\/3 over.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The Third Man<\/em> is a classic.\u00a0 Well written, well directed, well cast and well acted.\u00a0 Well&#8230; what do you expect, I said, &#8220;It&#8217;s a classic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I love the final scene when Holly Martins waits for Anna to catch up to him.\u00a0 He&#8217;s hoping they have a chance at romance.\u00a0 She walks by without even looking his way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: inherit;
