The Plot…<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\nNew York City detective John McClane has flown to LA on Christmas Eve.\u00a0 McClane is hoping to get back with\u00a0with his estranged wife, Holly.\u00a0 But first they have to attend Holly’s work Christmas party at the Nakatomi Towers.\u00a0 Holly’s moving up in the Nakatomi corporation and that’s one of the problems in the McClane marriage.<\/p>\n
The party is just getting underway when John arrives.\u00a0 He excuses himself to clean up in one of the company restrooms.\u00a0 Everyone else is gathered together for the party’s kick-off.\u00a0 That’s when a group of heavily armed terrorists led by Hans Gruber busts in.\u00a0 They take everyone at the party hostage.\u00a0 Except for John McClane.<\/p>\n
McClane realizes what is happening. He’s alone and unarmed.\u00a0 The terrorists have cut off all communications to\/from the tower.\u00a0 When they realize McClane is there, one of the armed terrorists is sent to retrieve him.\u00a0 McClane manages to kill the terrorist.\u00a0 He takes the assassins machine gun and radio.<\/p>\n
As the terrorists move forward with their plan (and it ain’t getting a ransom for the Nakatomi party-goers), they begin to hunt for John McClane.\u00a0 Killing him with be a bonus.\u00a0 What chance does one tired off-duty cop have against a band of armed mercenaries?<\/p>\n

Die Hard<\/em> is loosely<\/strong> based on the Roderick Thorp novel NOTHING LASTS FOREVER.\u00a0 A lot<\/strong> was changed for the film.\u00a0 Don’t read the book expecting Die Hard<\/em> the movie.<\/p>\nSly Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson and many other big name movie stars were offered the role of John McClane.\u00a0 Even Frank Sinatra was courted to play the lead.\u00a0 Everyone asked turned it down.\u00a0 Bruce Willis, a television lead at a time when tv was seen as way below feature films, was paid $5 million to star.\u00a0 In many of the first posters and ads for Die Hard<\/em>, Willis’ name was not played up.\u00a0 The movie went on to be a hit with audiences and shot Bruce Willis into the top tier of movie actors.<\/p>\nDie Hard<\/em> features Alan Rickman’s first feature film role.\u00a0 He is perfect as Hans Gruber.<\/p>\nDie Hard<\/em> was added to the National film registry by the Library of Congress in 2017 for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”<\/p>\nHart Bochner is on point as the smarmy executive that overplays his hand with Hans Gruber.<\/p>\n
