In Britain a fast spreading infection turns people into mindless, frenzied, killing machines.\u00a0 The source is called the Rage Virus.\u00a0 The virus is passed through bites, blood or saliva.\u00a0 There is no cure.<\/p>\n As a horde attacks, Jimmy, a twelve-year-old boy sees his mother taken down.\u00a0 Jimmy runs to the church where his father is minister.\u00a0 The swarm of infected follows closely behind.\u00a0 Jimmy’s father gives the boy a small cross and tells him to “run!”.\u00a0 As the infected burst into the church, Jimmy’s father allows himself to be taken so that Jimmy may escape.<\/p>\n 28 years later.\u00a0 The Rage Virus is contained to the British Isles which are now quarantined from the rest of the world.\u00a0 Military vessels patrol to make sure no one gets in or out.\u00a0 The virus has mutated.\u00a0 Some infected have grown bigger, faster and have limited reasoning.<\/p>\n Survivors either live alone or in small fortified villages.\u00a0 One such refuge is on a coastal island connected to the mainland by a causeway that is underwater except at low tide.\u00a0 Sentries stand watch 24 hours a day.<\/p>\n Jamie, his wife Isla and their twelve-year-old son Spike live on this island.\u00a0 Jamie is a scavenger for the community.\u00a0 Isla has been sick.\u00a0 She’s started to hallucinate.\u00a0 She’s weak and getting worse.<\/p>\n From time to time Jamie goes back to the mainland to search for needed items.\u00a0 Timing is crucial.\u00a0 He must leave at low tide and return before the water rises.\u00a0 If he fails to do so, tides are too strong and deep.\u00a0 Getting back to the island is then impossible.<\/p>\n Jamie believes that Spike is mature enough for his first trip to the mainland.\u00a0 The minimum age is usually fifteen.\u00a0 Going against convention, Jamie takes Spike over.\u00a0 When Spike learns that a doctor used to live within traveling distance, he wants to take his mother there.\u00a0 Jamie tells Spike the trip would be much too dangerous.\u00a0 Worse still, the doctor is out of his mind.<\/p>\n If Spike survives his first trip to the mainland, he is determined to take his mother to the doctor.<\/p>\n That is IF he survives…<\/p>\n Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n 28 days later<\/em> upped the ante with the zombie genre.
