{"id":4029,"date":"2010-02-16T01:55:09","date_gmt":"2010-02-16T05:55:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=4029"},"modified":"2010-02-15T15:04:27","modified_gmt":"2010-02-15T19:04:27","slug":"the-book-of-eli-review-some-spoilers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=4029","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;The Book of Eli&#8221; Review &#8211; Some Spoilers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><\/strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2010\/z021610book_eli.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"475\" height=\"235\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Pitch:<\/strong> <strong>Denzel Washington<\/strong> and the <strong>Hughes Brothers<\/strong> team to bring us a <strong>post-apocalyptic action\/adventure.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Overview:<\/strong> <strong>Denzel Washington<\/strong> plays a <strong>lone traveler<\/strong> on a<strong> holy mission<\/strong> to take the <strong>last remaining bible<\/strong> to a place that he will know once he gets there.\u00a0 <strong>Gary Oldman<\/strong> is the town boss who wants the bible to strengthen his power over those living in his town.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Good: <\/strong> <strong>Denzel<\/strong> is always good and this role is no exception.\u00a0 The <strong>concept<\/strong> works.\u00a0 <strong>Tom Waits<\/strong> as the town barterer.\u00a0 The old <strong>cannibal<\/strong> couple.\u00a0 The <strong>first action sequence<\/strong> set-up.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Bad: <\/strong> The <strong>fight scenes<\/strong> go by too quickly.\u00a0 Not showing how <strong>Denzel <\/strong>got out of a locked room in which he was being held a prisoner.\u00a0 Later, when <strong>Denzel<\/strong> walks away and is being shot at, no one seems overly surprised when he is not hit.\u00a0 Even later, <strong>Denzel<\/strong> shot <strong>point blank<\/strong> in the stomach looks to be dying.\u00a0 In the next scene he slaps some <strong>duct tape<\/strong> on the wound and gets up to continue his journey.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Ugly:<\/strong> Life in <strong>Oldman\u2019s town<\/strong>.\u00a0 What happens if you touch <strong>Denzel<\/strong> after being warned not to.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Summary:<\/strong> I <strong>enjoyed the movie<\/strong>, but wish that some of the fight scenes had been longer and clearer.\u00a0 I get that the intent was to show how quickly <strong>Denzel<\/strong> could dispatch a half dozen thugs, but it would have been more enjoyable to see the scenes as more than a blur or in shadow.\u00a0 I also get that <strong>Denzel\u2019s escape<\/strong> from the room was supposed to be a shock to his captors, but it felt like a cheat to just accept that he was out without seeing how he did it.<\/p>\n<p>I guess that\u2019s what is a bit odd\u2026 the whole movie is about <strong>a man\u2019s faith<\/strong> that <strong>God<\/strong> is taking him on a mission.\u00a0\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t know where or why, but <strong>his faith<\/strong> is enough to protect him and get him through to the end.\u00a0 Of course, <strong>faith is believing in something that you can\u2019t directly see <\/strong>and yet, it was the things that I couldn\u2019t directly see in the movie that I found to be my biggest complaint.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Pitch: Denzel Washington and the Hughes Brothers team to bring us a post-apocalyptic action\/adventure.
