Reynolds, Rick Aviles, Leslie Carlson <\/strong>and Morgan Freeman.<\/strong><\/p>\n Tagline: A reporter is using the streets to get ahead. A killer is using the reporter to get even.<\/em><\/p>\n The Plot…<\/strong><\/p>\n Jonathan Fisher, is a writer for a New York magazine.\u00a0 Fisher has been on a dry spell, unable to get any of his story pitches approved.\u00a0 Then Fisher comes up with the idea to profile a NY City pimp’s life on the street.\u00a0 The editor approves the story, but needs it in just a few days.<\/p>\n Fisher, under pressure and unable to meet a real pimp, fabricates the story.\u00a0 He creates a pimp persona he calls Tyrone.\u00a0 Surprisingly, the story goes viral.\u00a0 Fisher becomes a media sensation.<\/p>\n Leo “Fast Black” Smalls, Jr. is an actual New York City pimp.\u00a0 Many who know Smalls think the article was written about him.\u00a0 Fischer’s article accidentally got many things right about Smalls. Despite Fischer’s denials, everyone thinks Smalls was the pimp the article portrayed.<\/p>\n Then Smalls is arrested for killing a man.\u00a0 Smalls’ lawyer gets the bright idea to us Jonathan Fisher as his albi.\u00a0 If he was meeting with Fischer about the article, he couldn’t have been where the murder took place.\u00a0 Suddenly, Fisher is being pressured by his editor, the police and Smalls.<\/p>\n The police want Fisher’s notes created for the article from interviews with the pimp.\u00a0 Of course there are none.\u00a0 If Fisher is proved to be a fraud, his career is over.\u00a0 Smalls wants Fisher to lie for his aliby.\u00a0 If Fisher refuses, Smalls will make sure Fisher’s life is over.<\/p>\n Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n If you only know Christopher Reeve as Superman, check out Street Smart.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>Reeves got financing for the film by agreeing to star in Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.<\/em><\/p>\n Morgan Freeman earned well deserved nominations for an Oscar\u00ae, a Golden Globe<\/em> and won the Independent Spirit Award<\/em> for Best Supporting Male<\/em> for his role as\u00a0 Leo “Fast Black” Smalls, Jr.<\/p>\n Reeve and Kathy Baker also deserve kudos for the performances.<\/p>\n Miles Davis performs the movie’s score.<\/p>\n Street Smart <\/strong><\/em>(1987) rates 4 of 5 stars.
