Lee Prewitt, a professional boxer who retired after blinding another fighter, is transferred to Fort Shafter in Hawaii.\u00a0 Captain &#8220;Dynamite&#8221; Holmes is excited to get Prewitt under his command.\u00a0 Prewitt on his boxing team is a sure thing to win the Regimental Boxing Championship.\u00a0 When Prewitt refuses to box, Holmes decides to &#8220;break him&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To that end, Captain Holmes orders his subordinates to make Prewitt&#8217;s life miserable.\u00a0 Extra duties.\u00a0 Extreme punishments.\u00a0 Nothing can break Prewitt&#8217;s resolve.\u00a0 Company punishments for Prewitt&#8217;s &#8220;infractions&#8221; distance his fellow soldiers from him.\u00a0 Only Private Angelo Maggio is willing to be friendly with Prewitt.\u00a0 This causes friction between Maggio and the sadistic Sergeant Judson.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sergeant Milton knows Captain Holmes is wrong, but it would be career suicide to disobey him.\u00a0 Of course Milton&#8217;s affair with Captain Holmes&#8217; wife would have the same result.<\/p>\n<p>Things are past a breaking point&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; then the morning of December 7th dawns&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From <em>Here to Eternity<\/em> was nominated for thirteen 1954 Academy Awards.\u00a0 It won eight.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Winner for<em> Best Picture<\/em> &#8211; <strong>Buddy Adler<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Winner for <em>Best Actor in a Supporting Role<\/em> &#8211; <strong>Frank Sinatra<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Winner for <em>Best Actress in a Supporting Role<\/em> &#8211; <strong>Donna Reed<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Winner for <em>Best Director<\/em> &#8211;<strong> Fred Zinnemann<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Winner for <em>Best Writing, Screenplay<\/em> &#8211; <strong>Daniel Taradash<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Winner for<em> Best Cinematography, Black-and-White<\/em> &#8211;<strong> Burnett Guffey<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Winner for <em>Best Sound, Recording<\/em> &#8211;<strong> John P.
