Stephen King<\/strong>.<\/p>\nStars:\u00a0 Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Jordan Gonzalez, Roman Griffin Davis, Josh Hamilton, Judy Greer<\/strong> and Mark Hamill<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\nTagline: The task is simple: Walk or Die<\/em><\/p>\nThe Plot…<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\nFollowing a civil war, the US has become a military dictatorship.\u00a0 Each year and event known as The Long Walk<\/em> is held.\u00a0 Fifty boys, one from each state, is randomly selected to particpate in the televised event.<\/p>\nThe boys are given food and water.\u00a0 Once The Long Walk<\/em> starts it goes until there is one winner.\u00a0 Participants must walk at a sustained speed of atleast 3 miles per hour.\u00a0 \u00a0Fall below that speed and a warning is issued.\u00a0 After the third warning, the walker is executed.<\/p>\nThe Long Walk<\/em> ends when only one person left.\u00a0 The winner gets a big cash prize and one wish answered.\u00a0 The event is held to inspire patriotism and work ethic in a country working to recover from a great economic depression.<\/p>\nFriendships are formed as the boys begin their trek… but there can be only one survivor.<\/p>\n
Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\nIn Stephen King’s novel the participants must maintain a walking speed of 4mph.\u00a0 King asked that the speed be changed to 3mph for the movie.\u00a0 He felt that 4mph was unrealistic for the distance they had to cover.<\/p>\n
Way back in 1988, George “Night of the Living Dead”<\/em> was attached to direct an adaptation of The Long Walk<\/em>.<\/p>\nIn a cast of exceptional actors, David Jonsson and Mark Hamill are standouts.<\/p>\n
Kudos also to JT Mollner for his excellent screenplay.<\/p>\n
I thought the ending was the weakest part of an exceptional movie.\u00a0 I have since learned that there was an alternate ending.\u00a0 I would have preferred the alternate ending much more. ***SPOILER ALERT***\u00a0 In\u00a0 the alterate ending, Pete spares the Major’s life. A postscript reveals Pete mails three envelopes filled with cash are mailed each month to Hank’s widow, Ray’s mother, and Art’s grandmother.<\/p>\n
