(2020) starring Trai Byers, Bashir Salahuddin, Aja Naomi King, Mo McRae, Tosin Morohunfola, Mykelti Williamson and Thomas Haden Church \/ Z-View"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2026\/z083126review_24th.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"741\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>The 24th <\/i>(2020)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Director: <strong>Kevin Willmott<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Screenplay: \u00a0<strong>Kevin Willmott, Trai Byers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Stars: <strong>Trai Byers, Bashir Salahuddin, Aja Naomi King, Mo McRae, Tosin Morohunfola, Mykelti Williamson <\/strong>and <strong>Thomas Haden Church<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tagline: <em>Courage isn&#8217;t just fighting the enemy \u2014 it&#8217;s standing up for justice.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The Plot&#8230;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1917.\u00a0 An all black US army unit is stationed just outside the city limits.\u00a0 Although the soldiers are trained and want to help in the war effort, because of segregation they&#8217;re not allowed.\u00a0 Worse still, the men face racial discrimination every time they go into the city.\u00a0 Not only are the local police of no assistance, they often participate in the mistreatment of the soldiers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tension and frustration continues to ratchet up.\u00a0 Soldiers have been beaten and worse.\u00a0 When word reaches the camp that an armed white mob was headed for the base, the soldiers arm themselves.\u00a0 The soldiers decide to not wait and take the fight to the mob.\u00a0 They head into the city and begin shooting locals on site.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It isn&#8217;t until after 11 civilians and 5 policemen are gunned down that the soldiers learn that there never was an armed mob coming to the base.<\/p>\n<p>There will be repercussions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The 24th<\/em> is the true story of the 1917 Huston riot.\u00a0 Although I had heard of the riot, I had no idea of the specifics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The riot lasted two hours.\u00a0 Nineteen people were killed.\u00a0 Fifteen were white (including five police officers).\u00a0 Four were black soldiers killed by friendly fire or suicide.\u00a0 118 black soldiers were charged and went to trial.\u00a0 One soldier was found mentally unfit to stand trial.\u00a0 Eight were acquitted of all charges.\u00a0 Sixty-three soldiers were sentenced to life in prison.\u00a0 28 received shorter prison terms or other sentences.\u00a0 19 were sentenced to death and executed.<\/p>\n<p><em>The 24th<\/em> does a good job of dramatizing a terrible time in our history.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: inherit;
