The Plot…<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Jim Hickory is the respected Sheriff of Hickoryville, the town named after his family.\u00a0 Big Jim has three sons.\u00a0 Leo and Olin are huge, strong barrel chested men like their father.\u00a0 The youngest son, Harold, has none of their qualities.\u00a0 Although they love Harold, he doesn’t get the same respect.<\/p>\n

The residents of Hickoryville have finally raised enough money to get the state to build a much needed dam.\u00a0 Big Jim is entrusted to hold the cash until a state representative arrives to collect it.<\/p>\n

A traveling show comes to town.\u00a0 Harold is attracted to Mary, the daughter of the show’s recently deceased owner.\u00a0 Since her father’s death Mary is influenced by a couple of con men.\u00a0 Big Jim knows the con men mean trouble.\u00a0 Harold gets the chance to prove his manhood by shutting down the show.<\/p>\n

Things go from bad to worse when the money Big Jim was holding turns up missing.\u00a0 Big Jim is taken into custody.\u00a0 There’s talk of lynching Jim if the money doesn’t appear and fast.<\/p>\n

It will be up to Harold to save the day… and his father.<\/p>\n

Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Kid Brother<\/em> was Harold Lloyd’s favorite of all his films.<\/p>\n

Lewis Milestone was the original director.\u00a0 He left after directing a few scenes because of contract issues with Warner Bros.\u00a0 Ted Wilde to over.\u00a0 Wilde became ill and was unable to continue.\u00a0 J.A. Howe picked up the reins with Harold Lloyd assisting to finish the film.\u00a0 Lloyd helped direct most of his films, but never accepted credit.<\/p>\n

If you look closely, you’ll see the list of “Subscribers to County Dam” are actual names of supporting cast members.<\/p>\n

The Kid Brother<\/em> is one of Harold Lloyd’s best silent films but doesn’t get the same respect as Safety Last<\/em> or The Freshman<\/em>.\u00a0 It should.<\/p>\n
