{"id":43151,"date":"2026-11-02T07:23:00","date_gmt":"2026-11-02T12:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=43151"},"modified":"2026-11-01T14:49:14","modified_gmt":"2026-11-01T19:49:14","slug":"43151","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=43151","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Boorman and the Devil&#8221; (2025) \/ Z-View"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2026\/z110226review_boorman.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"750\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>Boorman and the Devil <\/i>(2025)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Director: <strong>David Kittredge<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Stars: <strong>John Boorman, Louise Fletcher, Mike Flanagan, Joe Dante, Linda Blair<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tagline: <em>Every artist has his demon.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The Plot&#8230;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After the success of <em>The Exorcist<\/em>, a sequel was a foregone conclusion.\u00a0 BUT, there were two BIG problems:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">William Peter Blatty, the autor of the original novel and the screenplay thought the story was complete.\u00a0 He wanted nothing to do with a sequel.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The Exorcist<\/em> director, William Friedkin also wanted nothing to do with a sequel.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So the studio turned to John Boorman.\u00a0 Boorman was coming off the success of <em>Point Blank<\/em> and <em>Deliverence.\u00a0 <\/em>Boorman wasn&#8217;t afraid to tackle the sequel.\u00a0 In fact Boorman had big ideas he wanted to explore and technically challenging camera set-ups he wanted to tackle. Boorman&#8217;s wanted to create an epic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The reality turned out much differently. The movie went significantly over its shooting schedule and budget. Boorman became deathly ill forcing the production to shut down for five weeks.\u00a0 Boorman planned to shoot on location at The Vatican, in Ethiopia, and the original MacNeil house and its famous steps in Georgetown. Because of delays and cost overruns, none of this happened.\u00a0 Boorman was forced to repeatedly rewrite the script due to cost cuts.\u00a0 Actors sometimes received new scenes right before filming.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The film was a disaster.\u00a0 Critics savaged it.\u00a0 After the first week audiences stayed away.\u00a0 Audiences laughed during viewings.\u00a0 Boorman hurriedly prepared a director&#8217;s cut, but it was too late.\u00a0 It would be four years before John Boorman would direct another film.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Thoughts (beware of spoilers)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Boorman and the Devil<\/em> is an excellent peek behind the movie-making curtain.
