Recently TV Squad<\/strong> ran a piece called the 50 Most Shocking TV Moments<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 So using just their list, I came up with my top ten<\/strong> [beware, there are spoilers<\/strong>, but my guess is you already know them]:<\/p>\n

10.\u00a0 Snakes and Rats – ‘Survivor’<\/em> — ‘Season Finale’ (Aug. 23, 2000)<\/strong>
\nSue Hawk’s rant<\/strong> was the talk of Survivor<\/strong><\/em> fans and helped make the show must see tv.\u00a0 It shocked viewers and still is considered one of the “highlights” in the show’s history.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

9. Mama of Anarchy – ‘Sons of Anarchy’<\/em> — ‘Albification’ (Sept. 8, 2009)<\/strong>
\nSons of Anarchy<\/strong><\/em> has had a lot of shockingly brutal moments, but the rape of Gemma<\/strong> at the hands of white separtists was brutally shocking.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

8. A Family Affair – ”The Shield’ <\/em>— ‘Family Meeting’ (Nov. 25, 2008)<\/strong>
\nShane<\/strong> and his family had been on the run and it was clear that there wasn’t a good ending waiting, but the fact that Shane<\/strong> killed his wife and kids and then himself was a shocking end to a character who had been on the show since the first episode.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

7. Sin\u00e9ad O’Connor Declares War – ‘Saturday Night Live’<\/em> — ‘Tim Robbins\/Sin\u00e9ad O’Connor’ (Oct. 3, 1992)<\/strong>
\nSin\u00e9ad O’Connor<\/strong> killed her career with her misguided act of protest.\u00a0 She’d have better off to go on Oprah<\/strong> and jump on the couch.\u00a0 O’Connor’s<\/strong> act of tearing up the picture of the Pope<\/strong> was and is so shocking that it’s only been seen on tv once since it happened.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

6. Jumping the Couch – ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’<\/em> (May 23, 2005)<\/strong>
\nTom Cruise<\/strong> was a box office superstar who could do no wrong… well, not counting that Brooke Shields<\/strong> incident… and then he started jumping on Oprah’s couch<\/strong>.\u00a0 Again and again.\u00a0 Faster than you could say whacky, Tom’s career<\/strong> was hurting and he was the butt of jokes everywhere.\u00a0 Shocking then and even more shocking that his career still hasn’t fully recovered.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

5. A Kiss Is Not Just a Kiss – ‘Star Trek’ — ‘Plato’s Stepchildren’<\/em> (Nov. 22, 1968)<\/strong>
\nI had just turned ten years old and still remember the first interracial kiss on television and how controversial it was.\u00a0 At the time\u00a0 didn’t understand the hoohal.\u00a0 I mean Kirk<\/strong> was kissing all kinds of aliens, so why the big deal about kissing an attractive human?\u00a0 Still, public reaction makes this a shocking moment.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

4.\u00a0 Two for the Death of One – ‘Lost’ — ‘Two for the Road’<\/em> (May 3, 2006)<\/strong>
\nWhen Michael<\/strong> shot and killed Ana Lucia<\/strong> I was shocked. Then Libby<\/strong> suddenly walked in, and Michael<\/strong> had to shoot her to cover up shooting Ana Lucia<\/strong> (which was done to cover up his release of Henry<\/strong>).\u00a0 Well played, Lost <\/strong><\/em>writers.\u00a0 You shocked us!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

3.. Rocker Shocker – “American Idol’ — ‘Elvis Presley Week’<\/em> (May 10, 2006)<\/strong>
\nMany, myself included, thought that Chris Daughtry<\/strong> could win it all.\u00a0 Everyone, including Daughtry<\/strong> himself was caught by surprise when he was voted out in the fourth spot.\u00a0 After finding out he was leaving, Daughtry<\/strong> told Ryan Seacrest<\/strong>,”I’m a little bit in shock.” Who am I to argue with Daughtry<\/strong>.\u00a0 Shocking it was.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

2. “Chloe … Edgar …’24’ — ‘Day 5: 6:00 p.m. \u2013 7:00 p.m.’<\/em> (March 6, 2006)<\/strong>
\nSome folks are expected to die on “24”<\/strong><\/em> but who would have thought that CTU<\/strong> geek Edgar Stiles<\/strong> would bite the bullet?\u00a0 He was such a popular character, a love story seemed to be blooming and he worked in the CTU<\/strong> headquarters.\u00a0 Who could be safer?\u00a0 Definitely shocking.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

1. Boob Tube, The Sequel – ‘Super Bowl XXXVIII Halftime Show’<\/em> (Feb. 1, 2004)<\/strong>
\nI remember watching the half time show and thinking that Justin Timberlake<\/strong> and Janet Jackson<\/strong> would put on a good show.\u00a0 When the, ahem, “wardrobe malfunction” happened, I remember thinking, “Did I just see that?”\u00a0 Everyone else in the room had the same look.\u00a0 Shocking indeed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
