{"id":4716,"date":"2010-08-08T09:22:16","date_gmt":"2010-08-08T13:22:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=4716"},"modified":"2010-08-08T09:25:48","modified_gmt":"2010-08-08T13:25:48","slug":"ufc-117-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=4716","title":{"rendered":"UFC 117 &#8211; Results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2010\/z08082010ufc117.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"475\" height=\"331\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Last night <strong>UFC 117 <\/strong>was held and for the first time in months, I didn&#8217;t get a chance to post my pre-fight predictions.\u00a0 Of course as luck would have it, I went <strong>5-0<\/strong> on the night but since I didn&#8217;t get up my picks pre-fight, you&#8217;ll just have to trust me.\u00a0 You do trust me, right?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Roy &#8220;Big Country&#8221; Nelson Vs. Junior &#8220;Cigano&#8221; Dos Santos<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Prefight Prediction: <\/strong>I thought that <strong>Dos Santos<\/strong> would win via <strong>TKO<\/strong> in the first or second.\u00a0 Everyone else watching with me picked <strong>Big Country<\/strong>.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Result:\u00a0 Junior Dos Santos<\/strong> won by<strong> unanimous decision<\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong>Big Country<\/strong> pressed the fight and had some great moments, but <strong>Dos Santos<\/strong> earned the victory.\u00a0 As far as everyone watching with me was concerned, it was a moral victory for <strong>Big Country<\/strong>&#8230; and I agree!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Matt  Hughes Vs. Ricardo &#8220;Cacharrao&#8221; Almeida <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Prefight Prediction: Hughes<\/strong> via a hard fought and potentially close<strong> decision<\/strong>.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nResult: Hughes<\/strong> won by <strong>chokeout<\/strong> at \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t3:15 \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\tin the <strong>1st round<\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong>Hughes<\/strong> landed a solid punch that rocked <strong>Almeda<\/strong> then jumped on him and applied the choke.\u00a0 After that it was lights-out.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Clay &#8220;The Carpenter&#8221; Guida Vs. Rafael  Dos Anjos <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Prefight Prediction: Guida<\/strong> by <strong>TKO<\/strong>.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Result:\u00a0 Guida<\/strong> won by <strong>tapout<\/strong> at \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t1:51 \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\tin the <strong>3rd round<\/strong>.\u00a0 Post fight reports say that <strong>Dos Anjos<\/strong> fought with a broken jaw from round one.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Jon  Fitch Vs. Thiago &#8220;Pitbull&#8221; Alves <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Prefight Prediction: Fitch<\/strong> by <strong>decision<\/strong>.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Postfight Result: Fitch <\/strong>won by<strong> unanimous decision<\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong>Alves<\/strong> had trouble making weight which I thought would add to <strong>Fitch&#8217;s advantage<\/strong>.\u00a0 At the post fight press conference<strong> Dana White<\/strong> said he believed <strong>Alves<\/strong> should move up a weight class for his future fights.\u00a0 I agree.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Anderson &#8220;The Spider&#8221; Silva Vs. Chael  Sonnen<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Prefight Prediction:<\/strong> Had I posted my fights on <strong>Friday<\/strong>, I would have went with <strong>Sonnen<\/strong>.\u00a0 When we made our picks right before the fights, I went with <strong>Silva<\/strong>.\u00a0 I wanted<strong> Sonnen<\/strong> to win, but I thought that <strong>Silva <\/strong>would find a way to victory.\u00a0 My thought was that <strong>Sonnen<\/strong> would press the fight and possibly score a takedown, but that <strong>Silva <\/strong>would get back to his feet and his superior stand-up would end an exciting fight fairly early.<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Result: Silva<\/strong> won by <strong>tapout<\/strong> to an arm bar at \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t3:10 \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\tin the <strong>5th round<\/strong>.\u00a0 Up to that point <strong>Sonnen<\/strong> had owned <strong>Silva.<\/strong> He took <strong>Silva<\/strong> down at will.\u00a0 He pounded him relentlessly for 4 and 3\/5 rounds.\u00a0 And while it&#8217;s true that <strong>Silva<\/strong> landed a few good shots and elbows along the way, it was <strong>Sonnen&#8217;s fight throughout<\/strong>.\u00a0 Credit has to be given to <strong>Silva<\/strong> who never looked frustrated and, like a champion found a way to win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Final thoughts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Roy<\/strong><em> &#8220;Big Country&#8221; <\/em><strong>Nelson<\/strong> probably earned more respect and fans in losing to <strong>Dos Santos<\/strong> than he did in winning the last season of <em><strong>The Ultimate Fighter<\/strong><\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Matt Hughes<\/strong> picked up a <strong>$60,000 bonus<\/strong> for <strong>Submission of the Night Honors<\/strong> (as did <strong>Anderson Silva<\/strong>).\u00a0 My guess is the wins (because of what they meant to their careers) meant more to both <strong>Hughes<\/strong> and <strong>Silva <\/strong>than the money.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Clay Guida <\/strong>got more interest from the ladies watching than any other fighter.\u00a0 Scary, huh?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Anderson Silva<\/strong> and<strong> Chael Sonnen<\/strong> each earned<strong> $60, 000 bonuses<\/strong> for <strong>Fight of the Night<\/strong>.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t you imagine<strong> Sonnen <\/strong>would give up the<strong> 60K <\/strong>for a chance to redo the last few seconds of the fight?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night UFC 117 was held and for the first time in months, I didn&#8217;t get a chance to post<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":912,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[66],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-4716","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-mma","comments-off"],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4716","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/912"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=4716"}],"version-history":[{"count":7,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4716\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":4723,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4716\/revisions\/4723"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=4716"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=4716"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=4716"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
