{"id":4927,"date":"2010-10-24T10:32:18","date_gmt":"2010-10-24T14:32:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=4927"},"modified":"2010-10-24T10:32:18","modified_gmt":"2010-10-24T14:32:18","slug":"ufc-121-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=4927","title":{"rendered":"UFC 121 Results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2010\/z10242010ufc121.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"475\" height=\"267\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>UFC 121<\/strong> was an excellent card so let&#8217;s get right to the results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Patrick Cote vs. Tom Lawlor<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>My prediction:<\/strong> <strong>Cote<\/strong> for the win.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The result: Lawlor won<\/strong> by <strong>Unanimous Decision<\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong>Cote <\/strong>couldn&#8217;t stop the takedowns and it was a one-sided fight. <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Making me: 0 &#8211; 1 <\/strong>for the night<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Brendan Schaub <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>My prediction: Gonzaga<\/strong> by TKO.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The result: Schaub won<\/strong> by <strong>Unanimous Decision. <\/strong>I really thought that there would be more fireworks in this one and that both fighters would stand in front of each other and swing away.\u00a0 That did happen in the final few seconds, but the rest of the fight was dominated by <strong>Schaub<\/strong>.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Making me: 0 -2<\/strong> for the night.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Paulo Thiago vs. Diego Sanchez<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>My prediction: Diego<\/strong> by decision.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The result: Diego won<\/strong> by <strong>Unanimous Decision<\/strong>.\u00a0 This was an exciting fight.\u00a0 I had it even going into the final round and that was the round that <strong>Diego<\/strong> owned.\u00a0 This match earned each fighter an extra <strong>$70,000<\/strong> for <strong>&#8220;Fight of the Night&#8221;<\/strong> bonuses&#8230; and rightly so.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Making me: 1-2<\/strong> for the night<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Matt Hamill vs. Tito Ortiz<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>My prediction: Hamill<\/strong> by decision.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The result: Hamill won<\/strong> by <strong>Unanimous Decision<\/strong>.\u00a0 It was an interesting fight.\u00a0 <strong>Tito<\/strong> didn&#8217;t look bad, and although some are predicting that his career with the <strong>UFC<\/strong> is over, I think we&#8217;ll see him fight again with the company.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Making me: 2-2 <\/strong>for the night<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jake Shields vs. Martin Kampman<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>My prediction: Shields<\/strong> via decision.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The result: Shields won <\/strong>with a<strong> Split Decision<\/strong>.\u00a0 It was an interesting battle of strategies.\u00a0 <strong>Shields<\/strong> wanted the fight on the ground and<strong> Kampman<\/strong> wanted it to be a stand-up war.\u00a0 Although it was a close fight, I thought it was clear that<strong> Shields<\/strong> won&#8230; and I&#8217;m glad two of the three judges agreed.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Making me: 3-2<\/strong> for the night.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>My prediction: Velasquez<\/strong> via <strong>TKO<\/strong>.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The result: Velasquez won<\/strong> via <strong>1st round stoppage<\/strong>.\u00a0 Although <strong>Brock<\/strong> came out strong throwing knees and scoring a quick takedown, <strong>Velasquez <\/strong>was immediately up and on the offensive.\u00a0 And it was all <strong>Velesquez<\/strong> from that point on. Velesquez picked up an extra $70,000 for &#8220;knockout of the night.&#8221;<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Making me: 4-2<\/strong> for the night.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Final Thoughts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Patrick Cote<\/strong> looked pretty bad.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve always been a fan, but without a good wrestling base or at least an answer to those with grappling skills, you&#8217;re pretty limited with your options in <strong>MMA<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Shaub<\/strong> surprised me.\u00a0 He controlled the fight and stuck to a good game plan.\u00a0 It will be interesting to keep an eye on him.\u00a0 <strong>Gonzaga<\/strong> didn&#8217;t look terrible, but I&#8217;m surprised he wasn&#8217;t able or willing to try and take it to <strong>Shaub<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Diego Sanchez<\/strong> is a fighter with a warrior&#8217;s heart.\u00a0 I&#8217;m happy for his win and look forward to his next fight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tito<\/strong> looked better in his loss last night than I expected.\u00a0 He may never get another title shot, but his career isn&#8217;t over.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Shields<\/strong> will get a <strong>title shot <\/strong>for his win over <strong>Kampman<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Velasquez<\/strong> dominated <strong>Lesnar<\/strong>.\u00a0 He was better in all areas [punching, wrestling, defense].\u00a0 In a piece at <strong>Yahoo!
