Egg: Hard-Boiled Stories #1<\/strong> is a rare find in comics these days.\u00a0 First of all, it’s an anthology<\/strong>.\u00a0 Second, every<\/span> tale is excellent in both story [all written by Eric Skillman<\/strong><\/span><\/a>] and art [Jorge Coelho<\/strong>, Joe Dellagatta<\/strong>, Dan Duncan<\/strong>, Jhomar Soriano<\/strong> and Connor Willumsen<\/strong>].\u00a0 Let’s look at the issue…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

These Kids Today<\/strong><\/em> by Eric Skillman<\/strong> and Connor Willumsen<\/strong> kicks off the issue with a three page story that packs a gut-punch ending<\/strong>.\u00a0 A somewhat older [wiser?] guy decides to hook up with a young babe who’s mad at her boyfriend and looking for a good time.\u00a0 Needless to say, good times ensue… for a bit.\u00a0 I didn’t see the ending coming and that made me love it all the more.\u00a0\u00a0 I really liked how the line art and colors worked on this story.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Our second tale, Below the Fold<\/strong><\/em> teams Eric Skillman<\/strong> with Jorge Coelho<\/strong><\/span><\/a> in an eight page story about a reporter who needs to break a major story in order to keep her job.\u00a0 Her luck turns when she discovers information that would save her career… but cost her much more.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Next up is Eric Skillman<\/strong> and Jhomar Soriano<\/strong><\/span><\/a> teaming to bring us Uninvited<\/strong><\/em>, a three page tale of suspense.\u00a0 Kate Carville<\/strong> is the lead prosecutor<\/strong> against a mob boss in a trial set to start the following morning.\u00a0 Kate <\/strong>is home alone prepping for the case when she hears someone in her house.<\/p>\n

As I was reading this short tale I was thinking that I’d really like to see Skillman<\/strong> and Soriano<\/strong> team for a graphic novel.\u00a0 I was thrilled to learn that they did [Liar’s Kiss<\/strong><\/span>] and that it would live up to my high expectations [future review coming].<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The Real Thing<\/strong><\/em> [by Eric Skillman<\/strong> and Dan Duncan<\/strong><\/span>] explores what happens when a con man<\/strong> set to score big discovers that a female con artist<\/strong> is also working the same guy.\u00a0 Can they trust each other so that everyone, except the mark, comes out ahead?<\/p>\n

Our final tale is Spared<\/strong><\/em> by Eric Skillman<\/strong> and Joe Dellagatta<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 It’s every woman’s nightmare to be traveling alone on a deserted road and for the car to breakdown.\u00a0 That’s exactly what happens to Kristen<\/strong>.\u00a0 Perhaps things are looking up when a stranger stops to help.\u00a0 Perhaps not.\u00a0 I foresaw a couple of different endings to this tale, but not the one that Skillman<\/strong> and Dellagatta<\/strong> delivered.\u00a0 THAT is the sign of good storytelling.\u00a0 Special props for the coloring of this story as well.<\/p>\n

So there you have it.\u00a0 Five excellent crime stories<\/strong> by Eric Skillman<\/strong> and five talented artists.\u00a0 If you’ve read this far, then\u00a0 Egg: Hard-Boiled Stories #1 <\/strong>should find a home in your collection.<\/p>\n
