DC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2011\/z100311mar_dc.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"475\" height=\"1188\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Recently <strong>CBR.com <span style=\"color: #000000;\">posted the results<\/span><\/strong> of a <strong>poll of comic book readers<\/strong> to determine the <strong>top 100 Marvel and DC characters<\/strong>.\u00a0 Using just their list of the <strong>top 50<\/strong> for each company, I present <strong>my top 10<\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>10.\u00a0 Namor<\/strong> &#8211; 539 points (7 first place votes):\u00a0 There was a<strong> summer <\/strong>when I was a kid in<strong> elementary school<\/strong> that I thought that<strong> Namor<\/strong> was the coolest cat <del>walking<\/del> swimming.\u00a0 He looked like<strong> Spock<\/strong>, was a <strong>Prince<\/strong>, could breathe on land and sea.\u00a0 Yeah, <strong>Namor <\/strong>was the man.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>09.\u00a0 Black Widow<\/strong> (Natasha Romanova)- 452 points (3 first place votes):\u00a0 I&#8217;ve read fewer stories with the <strong>Black Widow<\/strong> than any of the other characters in <strong>my top ten<\/strong>, but I like this character.\u00a0 The first time I really noticed her potential was in a black and white magazine that featured her in a story drawn by <strong>Paul Gulacy<\/strong>.\u00a0 Around the same time, <strong>Frank Miller<\/strong> put her to good use in <strong>Daredevil<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>08.\u00a0 Green Arrow<\/strong> (Oliver Queen) &#8211; 1495 (17 first place votes).\u00a0 <strong>Denny O&#8217;Neil <\/strong>and <strong>Neal Adams, Mike Grell, Trevor Von Eden<\/strong> and <strong>Jock<\/strong> all have worked their riffs on the<strong> Green Arrow<\/strong>.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve enjoyed all versions&#8230; especially those without the <strong>trick arrows<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>07.\u00a0 Luke Cage<\/strong> &#8211; 633 points (3 first place votes):\u00a0 I can still remember picking the first issue of <strong>Luke Cage: Hero for Hire<\/strong> off the newsstands, reading it and thinking, yeah, this is how it would in real life if someone got super-powers. \u00a0 When I was in junior high I had a &#8220;shop&#8221; class and one of the things we had to create were business cards.\u00a0 It had to be for a business that wasn&#8217;t real and we couldn&#8217;t use our own names.\u00a0 My card read <strong>&#8220;Blackjack Joey &#8211; Hero for Hire.&#8221;<\/strong> So you can see the influence that <strong>Luke Cage<\/strong> had on me.\u00a0 Bonus points to anyone who can figure out where <strong>Blackjack Joey<\/strong> came from.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>06.\u00a0 Question<\/strong> (Vic Sage) &#8211; 382 points (6 first place votes)\u00a0 Although I never read the original <strong>Question<\/strong> stories, I really dug the <strong>Denny O&#8217;Neil \/ Denys Cowan \/ Rick Magyar<\/strong> stories.\u00a0 Add in the covers by <strong>Bill Sienkiewicz<\/strong> and you have a top ten character.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>05.\u00a0 The Punisher <\/strong>(Frank Castle) &#8211; 995 (17 first place votes)\u00a0 I&#8217;m talking about <em>the real<\/em> <strong>Punisher<\/strong>.\u00a0 You know the one who appeared in the mini-series and graphic novels by <strong>Steven Grant, Mike Zeck<\/strong> and<strong> John Beatty<\/strong>.\u00a0 You can throw in a bit of <strong>Miller <\/strong>and <strong>Romita Jr&#8217;s<\/strong> riffs, but count me out when the <strong>Punisher<\/strong> becomes a substitute teacher or starts hanging out with <strong>Microchip<\/strong> or any other sidekick.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>04.\u00a0 Daredevil<\/strong> &#8211; 2280 points (71 first place votes):\u00a0 If <strong>Frank Miller<\/strong> wrote <strong>Daredevil<\/strong> and either he or <strong>David Mazzucchelli <\/strong>drew the series, I&#8217;d be a lifetime subscriber.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>03.\u00a0 Wolverine<\/strong> &#8211; 2728 points (54 first place votes)\u00a0 <strong>Wolverine<\/strong> during <strong>Claremont, Byrne and Austin&#8217;s<\/strong> run was the coolest character ever.\u00a0 His biggest fault was he became too popular and was everywhere.\u00a0 <strong>Miller&#8217;s<\/strong> mini-series was cool.\u00a0 <strong>Chaykin<\/strong> has done some neat stuff with <strong>Wolverine<\/strong> as well.\u00a0 Unfortunately, too many people tried to work their magic on <strong>Logan<\/strong> and I lost interest.\u00a0 I&#8217;d still return to read stories about the runt if the right creator took the reins.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>02.\u00a0 Nick Fury<\/strong> &#8211; 619 points (7 first place votes):\u00a0 I remember buying an issue of <strong>Nick Fury: Agent of Shield <\/strong>off the stands when I was elementary school.\u00a0 I&#8217;d never seen a comic that looked so cool.\u00a0 <strong>Steranko<\/strong> <del>was<\/del> is amazing.\u00a0 When I attended <strong>my first comic convention<\/strong>, the first items I purchased were a <strong>complete run<\/strong> of <strong>Steranko&#8217;s Nick Fury<\/strong> comics [and an issue of his publication, <strong>MediaScene<\/strong>].\u00a0 Someone find a way to get<strong> Steranko<\/strong> to do covers for a <strong>Gulacy<\/strong> drawn, <strong>Doug Moench <\/strong>written<strong> Nick Fury <\/strong>series set in the <strong>1960&#8217;s<\/strong>.\u00a0 The time is right.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>01.\u00a0 Batman<\/strong> (Bruce Wayne) &#8211; 6585 points (313 first place votes)\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t matter who draws<strong> Batman [Neal Adams, Marshall Rogers, Jim Aparo, Frank Miller<\/strong>, etc.], what kind of stories [funny, serious, set in any time period or genre], <strong>Batman<\/strong> works.\u00a0 That has to make him the<strong> #1 character<\/strong>&#8230;
