\"\"<\/strong>The photos today are of folks who came in costume to MegaCon 2012<\/strong>.\u00a0 They have nothing to do with the following post other than the fact that the nonsense I’m about to tell you took place at\u00a0 MegaCon 2012<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If you’ve been following my previous posts about MegaCon 2012<\/strong> [Paul Gulacy<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span> and Mitch vs BIG RUSSIAN GUY<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>] then you know I spent most of the weekend hanging out with my buddy, John Beatty<\/strong>.\u00a0 John<\/strong> was a guest of the show, and had a table where he sketched and signed autographs for fans.<\/p>\n

On the way to the convention Saturday<\/strong>, John<\/strong> and I decided to swing by McDonald’s<\/strong> for a breakfast to go.\u00a0 The McDonald’s<\/strong> was packed and the drive-through closed for construction.\u00a0 So, I ran in and got our breakfast while Beatty<\/strong> circled the lot for a parking spot.\u00a0 Soon enough I had our orders and we were on our way to the show.<\/p>\n

We ended up parking in a lot next to the convention center even farther out than on Friday<\/strong>.\u00a0 The difference this morning was that there were bicycle-rickshaws<\/strong> that would ride you over to the convention center for five bucks a head.\u00a0 Since I had my convention bag<\/strong> full of reference, sketchbooks<\/strong>, a camera<\/strong> plus a small cooler<\/strong> with drinks and snacks for Beatty<\/strong> and I, I thought the bike-shaw<\/strong> was a good idea.\u00a0 Beatty<\/strong> had his drawing board<\/strong> and bag of art supplies<\/strong>, and so he agreed.<\/p>\n

A bike-shaw<\/strong> rider pulled up and asked us if we wanted a ride.\u00a0 We said we did.\u00a0 He said he could take us both at the same time.\u00a0 Cool.\u00a0 I climbed in with my two bags<\/strong> and McDonald’s Sugar-Free Vanillia Iced Coffee with non-fat milk<\/strong>.\u00a0 I had taken a sip and it was perfectly made<\/strong>.\u00a0 I couldn’t wait to get to the convention table to drink it with my McSkillet steak burrito<\/strong>. Once I was settled in the bike-shaw<\/strong>, John<\/strong> came on with his art board, art bag<\/strong> and McDonald’s Mocca Frappe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As the bike-shaw driver<\/strong> started to get us moving, the bike<\/strong> and then ric-shaw<\/strong> started to shake back and forth.\u00a0 My iced coffee<\/strong> went flying and landed spilled across the parking lot.\u00a0 The driver apologized.\u00a0 Beatty<\/strong> and I repositioned our gear and the guy started off again.<\/p>\n

It was slow going… at first.\u00a0 Then the driver<\/strong> got his momentum and we’re were going at a fast clip<\/strong>.\u00a0 Which was fantastic until it came time to make a fairly tight curve.<\/p>\n

Have you ever tried to stop a loaded locomotive?<\/p>\n

Apparently neither had our driver.\u00a0 The bike<\/strong> went up the curb and the ric-shaw<\/strong> lurched as Beatty<\/strong> and I came out of it.\u00a0 Surprisingly, Beatty<\/strong> never lost hold of his frappe.\u00a0 The driver<\/strong> again apologized.\u00a0 We straightened out the bike-shaw<\/strong>, pushed it around the curve and re-loaded.\u00a0 Soon we were on our way and arrived at the convention center<\/strong> without further incident.<\/p>\n

A short walk and we were at our table – ready for our breakfast burritos<\/strong>.\u00a0 John<\/strong> still had his frappe<\/strong> and I could drink a Diet Coke<\/strong> from the cooler.\u00a0 I asked John<\/strong> for my burrito<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

He said, “Didn’t you get the bag out of the back seat?”<\/p>\n

“Uh, no.\u00a0 You put it there.\u00a0 I thought you got it.”<\/p>\n

Beatty<\/strong> wasn’t sure if I was messing with him.\u00a0 I wasn’t.\u00a0 Our breakfast<\/strong> was sitting in the back of his Charger<\/strong>… and neither of us were going back for it.<\/p>\n

The next day Beatty<\/strong> and I hit the McDonald’s<\/strong> again for breakfast.\u00a0 This time we got a MUCH closer parking spot and walked in to the convention.\u00a0 We ate our breakfast at the table and all was great…or so I thought.<\/p>\n

After I ate, I decided to walk around and talk to some artists.\u00a0 When I got back, Beatty<\/strong> wasn’t at the table.\u00a0 I asked Bob McLeod<\/strong>, who had the table next to us, where John<\/strong> was.\u00a0 Bob started laughing and said, “You don’t know?”<\/p>\n

“No, I really don’t.\u00a0 What’s so funny?”<\/p>\n

“John<\/strong> finished his breakfast and decided to get started on a sketch.\u00a0 When John<\/strong> opened his art bag<\/strong>, he realized he had his clothes bag<\/strong> and his art supplies<\/strong> were in the bag in his car.”<\/p>\n

At least we were parked close by.<\/p>\n
