{"id":7885,"date":"2013-02-15T23:59:02","date_gmt":"2013-02-16T03:59:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=7885"},"modified":"2021-10-31T19:24:36","modified_gmt":"2021-10-31T23:24:36","slug":"riddick-pitch-black-or-chronicles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=7885","title":{"rendered":"Riddick: Pitch Black or Chronicles?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2013\/z021513riddick.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"515\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If won&#8217;t be long until <strong>Vin Diesel<\/strong> returns as in his third outing as <strong>Riddick<\/strong> in the aptly named <em><strong>Riddick<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0<strong>Diesel&#8217;s<\/strong> first appearance as the character was in <em><strong>Pitch Black<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Not only was <em><strong>Pitch Black<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<strong>Vin Diesel&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>breakout film, it was also the movie that put writer\/director <strong>David Twohy<\/strong> on the map. \u00a0It&#8217;s obvious that they would have an affinity for the <strong>Riddick<\/strong> character, and thankfully so did movie fans.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was only natural then, that <strong>Riddick<\/strong> would appear in a sequel. \u00a0<strong>Twohy<\/strong> and <strong>Diesel<\/strong> had big, big plans for the character. \u00a0<em><strong>The Chronicles of Riddick<\/strong><\/em> was born.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>The Chronicles of Riddick\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>was to be a <strong>huge tentpole movie<\/strong> which took <strong>Riddick<\/strong> into the <strong>Neccromonger underverse<\/strong>. \u00a0As <strong>Twohy<\/strong> explains&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHad Universal said to us, \u2018Let&#8217;s roll over, let&#8217;s pick it up right at the end of the last movie\u2019 and funded it, we would have ventured into the Necromonger underverse and we would have had a big The Lord of the Rings-style movie on our hands.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>The Chronicles of Riddick<\/strong><\/em> under-performed at the box office and many thought that would be the last of the <strong>Riddick<\/strong> character. \u00a0Yet, <strong>Twohy<\/strong> and <strong>Diesel<\/strong> realized there was still a lot of potential left in the character.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They got the rights back and decided to make a third movie. Although this time <strong>Twohy<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Diesel<\/strong>\u00a0had a more limited budget, they also had a clear idea of what made <strong>Riddick<\/strong> in <em><strong>Pitch Black<\/strong><\/em> work so well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Trent Moore, at Blastr asks&#8230;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But imagine what could\u2019ve been if\u00a0<em>Chronicles<\/em>\u00a0had performed a little better.
