{"id":7890,"date":"2013-02-16T20:12:23","date_gmt":"2013-02-17T00:12:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=7890"},"modified":"2021-03-21T16:45:37","modified_gmt":"2021-03-21T20:45:37","slug":"the-top-ten-unsolved-murders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=7890","title":{"rendered":"The Top Ten Unsolved Murders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2013\/z021613unsolved_murders.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Who doesn&#8217;t like a good <strong>mystery<\/strong>? \u00a0Especially if it is a<strong> murder mystery<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Smashing Lists<\/strong> posted their choices for the <em><strong>Top Ten Unsolved Crimes<\/strong><\/em>&#8230; all of which involved <strong>murder<\/strong>. \u00a0Here are my thoughts about each&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>10. \u00a0The Zodiac Killer<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0<span style=\"text-align: justify;\">I would have placed<\/span><strong style=\"text-align: justify;\"> the <strong>Zodiac Killer<\/strong> <\/strong><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">much higher on the list. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Not only did<strong> the <strong>Zodiac Killer<\/strong> <\/strong>murder at least 7 people, he wrote notes to newspapers taunting the police even as his killing streak continued.<strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><strong>The Zodiac Killer<\/strong><\/strong> was the inspiration for many movie<strong> <strong>serial killers<\/strong> <\/strong>with my favorite being<strong> <strong>The Scorpio Killer<\/strong> <\/strong>played by<strong> <strong>Andrew Robinson<\/strong> <\/strong>in<strong> <em><strong>Dirty Harry<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Unfortunately, there was no real life<strong> <strong>Harry Callahan<\/strong> <\/strong>to bring down<strong> <strong>The Zodiac Killer<\/strong>, <\/strong>so we may never know his true identity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>09. The Murder of Edgar Allan Poe<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; This <strong>would not<\/strong> have even <strong>made my list<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No one is sure what killed <strong>Poe<\/strong>. \u00a0Note that I said what, not who.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong style=\"font-style: italic; text-align: justify;\">Poe&#8217;s death<\/strong><span style=\"font-style: italic; text-align: justify;\"> has been attributed to everything from heart disease to rabies. \u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"font-style: italic; text-align: justify;\">Murder<\/strong><span style=\"font-style: italic; text-align: justify;\">? \u00a0Maybe, maybe not.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-style: italic; text-align: justify;\">So if we&#8217;re not sure he was killed, should <\/span><strong style=\"font-style: italic; text-align: justify;\">Poe&#8217;s death\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-style: italic; text-align: justify;\">be part of a list of the top ten unsolved murders? \u00a0No mystery to my answer &#8212; I say, &#8220;No.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>08. The Tylenol Poisonings<\/strong> &#8211; In <strong>1982<\/strong>,<strong> seven people<\/strong> mysteriously died after taking <strong>Tylenol<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Once the link to <strong>Tylenol<\/strong> was found, <strong>Johnson &amp; Johnson<\/strong> recalled \u00a0<strong>over 31 million<\/strong> bottles of their product nationwide, issued warnings and offered a <strong>$100,000 reward<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The seven deaths caused a national alarm and eventually led to the development of tamper-proof packaging.<\/li>\n<li>Despite the reward and the involvement of the <strong>FBI<\/strong>, the <strong>Tylenol Killer<\/strong> was never found.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>07. The Murder of JonBenet Ramsey<\/strong> &#8211; Six year old <strong>JonBenet Ramsey<\/strong> was found in the basement of the family home more than seven hours after she had been reported missing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>JonBenet<\/strong> had been the victim of blunt force trauma to the head and died of strangulation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Immediate <strong>suspects<\/strong> included her father, her mother and her brother and this was leaked to the media. \u00a0A <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20061208031500\/http:\/\/www.thedenverchannel.com\/2006\/0818\/9699449.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>ransom note<\/strong><\/span><\/a> was found and there was speculation that<strong> JonBenet&#8217;s mother<\/strong> wrote it.<\/li>\n<li>The local police bungled the investigation and<strong> JonBenet&#8217;s killer<\/strong> was never found.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>06. \u00a0The Murder of the Black Dahlia<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; <strong>Elizabeth Short<\/strong> aka <strong>the Black Dahlia<\/strong> wanted to be a famous actress. \u00a0Although she became famous, it was because she was the victim of one of the most <strong>infamous murders<\/strong> of all time.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Short&#8217;s<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"> nude body was found on a residential street <\/span><strong>cut in half<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"> and <\/span><strong>drained of all blood<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Hundreds of men were questioned but the <\/span><strong>murderer<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"> was <\/span><strong>never caught<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">. \u00a0Investigations continue to this day.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">I would have placed <\/span><strong>The Murder of the Black Dahlia<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"> higher on the list.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>05. The Murder of\u00a0Tupac Shakur<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Tupac Shakur<\/strong> gained fame as a former gang member who became a rapper and was branching out into acting.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Shakur<\/strong> never backed away from his gang affiliations and was gunned down in a <strong>drive-by shooting<\/strong> that came after an earlier gang-related altercation the same evening.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tupac&#8217;s murderer(s)<\/strong> were never identified.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>04. \u00a0The Lizzie Borden Murders<\/strong> &#8211; \u00a0Over <strong>100 years<\/strong> later, the chant:\u00a0\u201c<strong>Lizzie Borden<\/strong> took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks, upon seeing what she\u2019d done, she gave her father forty-one\u201d is still known.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although the counts are wrong and <strong>Lizzie Borden<\/strong> was <strong>acquitted<\/strong> of the murders, the chant isn&#8217;t too far off from the truth. \u00a0Or is it? \u00a0Did <strong>Lizzie Borden<\/strong> really kill her parents?<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">We<\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic; text-align: justify;\"> may never know and that&#8217;s why <\/span><strong style=\"font-style: italic; text-align: justify;\">The Lizzie Borden Murders<\/strong><span style=\"font-style: italic; text-align: justify;\"> deserves it&#8217;s place on this list.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>03. \u00a0Jack the Stripper<\/strong> &#8211; Did you know that in the <strong>1960&#8217;s<\/strong> there was a <strong>serial killer<\/strong> the press named <strong>Jack the Stripper<\/strong> because he killed at least 6 prostitutes and left them nude?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I didn&#8217;t either. \u00a0Perhaps then, this case shouldn&#8217;t have made the list. \u00a0How famous can it be, if we didn&#8217;t know about it?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>02. \u00a0The Assassination of Oscar Romero<\/strong> &#8211; On <strong>March 24, 1980, Oscar Romero<\/strong>, an <strong>El Savadorian<\/strong> priest who spoke out against the ruling powers was shot and killed in <strong>El Salvidor<\/strong>. \u00a0His killer was never identified.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>01. \u00a0Jack the Ripper<\/strong> &#8211; The <strong>most famous<\/strong> of all <strong>serial killers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For three years, <strong>Jack the Ripper<\/strong> \u00a0killed and mutilated his victims and taunted the police through his letters to newspapers.<\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"font-style: italic;\">Jack the Ripper<\/strong><span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> inspired scores of movies, books and perhaps <\/span><strong style=\"font-style: italic;\">serial killers<\/strong><span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> and definitely deserves the top spot.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Had I made the list, I would have included <strong>The Assassination of President Kennedy<\/strong> and <strong>The Killing of Jimmy Hoffa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some may argue that the <strong>Kennedy assassination<\/strong> was solved with the capture of <strong>Lee Harvey Oswald<\/strong>, I would say that due to the huge number of <strong>conspiracy theories<\/strong> about the <strong>Kennedy Assassination<\/strong> that it deserves a spot on the list.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While it is true that it was never proven that <strong>Jimmy Hoffa<\/strong> was killed, I think that <strong>his disappearance<\/strong> coupled with <strong>his mob connections<\/strong> and the <strong>unsolved nature of the case<\/strong> would allow it&#8217;s inclusion on the list.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So&#8230; what unsolved murder didn&#8217;t make the list that you&#8217;d put there?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Who doesn&#8217;t like a good mystery? \u00a0Especially if it is a murder mystery.
