{"id":8465,"date":"2013-06-22T18:29:54","date_gmt":"2013-06-22T22:29:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=8465"},"modified":"2013-06-22T20:55:27","modified_gmt":"2013-06-23T00:55:27","slug":"zs-review-world-war-z-that-doesnt-stand-for-zablo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=8465","title":{"rendered":"Z-View: &#8220;World War Z&#8221; [&#038; That Doesn&#8217;t Stand for Zablo]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-family: arial; text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2013\/z062213world_warz.png\" width=\"500\" height=\"504\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: arial; text-align: justify;\"><strong><em><\/em><\/strong> <strong>The Pitch:<\/strong> &#8220;Let&#8217;s make a <strong>zombie<\/strong> movie [<strong>zombies<\/strong> are hot] based on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/World-Mass-Market-Movie-Tie-\/dp\/0770437400\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1371937633&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=world+war+z\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Max Brooks&#8217; World War Z<\/strong><\/a> novel [that book is hot] starring <strong>Brad Pitt<\/strong> [he&#8217;s hot].&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Overview:<\/strong>\u00a0A worldwide <strong>zombie<\/strong> outbreak is spreading at such an alarming rate that it threatens to wipeout humanity. \u00a0<strong>Brad Pitt<\/strong> plays Gerry Lane, a former <strong>UN investigator<\/strong> asked to go with a young scientist and a team of <strong>Navy SEALS<\/strong> into a hot zone to see if the scientist can get information to stop the zombie infection. Nothing goes as planned&#8230; but does it ever during a <strong>zombie<\/strong> outbreak?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Good:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Many thought that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/World-Mass-Market-Movie-Tie-\/dp\/0770437400\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1371937633&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=world+war+z\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Max Brooks&#8217; World War Z<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0novel would be impossible to adapt into a movie. \u00a0Perhaps they were right. \u00a0Purists will be upset that many liberties were taken in turning <em><strong>World War Z<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>the novel into <em><strong>World War Z<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 the movie. \u00a0The writers did an excellent job of getting across the worldwide crisis and how different areas are dealing with it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The movie starts off with action almost straight away and lets up only long enough for the audience to get a breath and to set up the next &#8220;are you kidding me&#8221; sequence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">I love the confusion when the outbreaks first hits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Brad Pitt<\/strong> counting the time it takes a bitten person to turn and then counting again when he runs to the roof&#8217;s ledge is cool.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The scene when <strong>Pitt<\/strong> raises his hands to the cop and the officer walks past him to the baby formula makes it clear that priorities have changed and people are on their own.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are several action sequences and they&#8217;re all well done. \u00a0I like that Pitt is not the man sent in to save the day, but instead he&#8217;s the man to keep &#8220;that guy&#8221; alive.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Bad:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The<strong> zombie<\/strong> outbreak. \u00a0These <strong>zombies<\/strong> are fast. \u00a0Again, purists will hate fast-moving <strong>zombies<\/strong>. \u00a0They don&#8217;t bug me and in<em><strong> World War Z<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 they work well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>I was concerned that the ant-like climbing that we see in <em><strong>World War Z<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>previews would come off as hokey in the movie. \u00a0They didn&#8217;t.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">I was also concerned that director\u00a0<strong>Marc<\/strong> [Quantum of Solace] <strong>Forster<\/strong> wasn&#8217;t the best choice for this film. \u00a0I was wrong. <strong>Foster<\/strong> did an excellent job.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">So really the only things bad in <em><strong>World War Z<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 [other than the outbreak itself] were my preconceived notions&#8230; oh, and that thing that happens to <strong>Brad Pitt<\/strong> after the commercial airliner sequence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Ugly:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What happens when you are given a firearm and aren&#8217;t trained to use it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">It&#8217;s also pretty ugly when you think that you&#8217;re safe behind a giant wall and start celebrating a little too soon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Oh, and it&#8217;s really ugly when a <strong>zombie<\/strong>\u00a0 makes it on\u00a0a commercial airliner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Rating: \u00a0A<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: arial;
