{"id":8771,"date":"2013-09-07T08:29:35","date_gmt":"2013-09-07T12:29:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=8771"},"modified":"2013-09-07T08:30:35","modified_gmt":"2013-09-07T12:30:35","slug":"50-of-us-population-lives-in-less-than-5-of-us-counties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=8771","title":{"rendered":"50% of US Population Lives in Less Than 5% of US Counties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><\/strong><strong><\/strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2013\/z090713us_counties.png\" width=\"500\" height=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><br \/>\nDid you know that<strong> half<\/strong> of the<strong> US population<\/strong> lives in just<strong> 146 counties<\/strong>?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I didn&#8217;t either. \u00a0That&#8217;s crazy when you think about it. \u00a0There are over <strong>3,000 counties<\/strong> in the <strong>US<\/strong>, but fully <strong>half<\/strong> of the<strong>\u00a0US population<\/strong> lives in <strong>less 5%<\/strong> of them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I was also surprised to discover that where I live &#8212; in <strong>Volusia County,Florida<\/strong> &#8212; is one of the counties in the <strong>top 5%<\/strong>. I knew <strong>Volusia<\/strong> county was big, but didn&#8217;t think it was THAT big.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wouldn&#8217;t you imagine that we&#8217;d have a <strong>major sports team<\/strong>, a <strong>large booming city<\/strong> or something to draw in such a high population density. \u00a0We don&#8217;t. \u00a0While it is true that <strong>Volusia County<\/strong> is the home of the<strong> Daytona 500<\/strong>, I don&#8217;t think that&#8217;s the draw.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Perhaps it&#8217;s simply because our county is so big in area and we were once the home of the <strong>World&#8217;s Most Famous Beach<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/half-of-the-united-states-lives-in-these-counties-2013-9\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Business Insider<\/strong><\/a> for the link.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that half of the US population lives in just 146 counties?
