{"id":9057,"date":"2013-11-23T10:28:57","date_gmt":"2013-11-23T14:28:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=9057"},"modified":"2021-05-22T09:47:50","modified_gmt":"2021-05-22T13:47:50","slug":"dana-white-the-fighters-a-new-boxing-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=9057","title":{"rendered":"Dana White &#038; The Fighters: A New Boxing Series!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2013\/z112313fighters.png\" width=\"500\" height=\"390\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Growing up I was a <strong>fight fan<\/strong>. \u00a0That meant I was a <strong>boxing fan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>MMA<\/strong> as we know it today was decades away. \u00a0It was a time of tough guys. \u00a0<strong>Marciano &#8211; Liston &#8211; Ali &#8211; Frazier &#8211; Norton &#8211; Foreman<\/strong>. \u00a0Boxing appeared regularly on television for free. \u00a0<strong>ESPN<\/strong> had a weekly boxing show. <strong>\u00a0NBC &#8211; CBS<\/strong> and<strong> ABC<\/strong> regularly aired<strong> live boxing cards<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Later <strong>boxing<\/strong> became an<strong> event sport<\/strong> with all eyes on <strong>pay-per-view Super Fights<\/strong>. \u00a0 <strong>Ali vs Frazier. \u00a0Hagler vs Hearns. \u00a0Duran vs Leonard<\/strong>. \u00a0The top tier of boxers became celebrities and were given <strong>mega paydays<\/strong>. \u00a0Of course the vast majority of boxers made little and often retired battered and poor. \u00a0There were fewer and fewer big name fighters and the popularity of boxing began to wane.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Then 20 years ago the <strong>UFC<\/strong> was born. \u00a0Although the company struggled at first the popularity of <strong>MMA<\/strong>, specifically the <strong>UFC<\/strong> took off. \u00a0The <strong>UFC<\/strong> was on tv with a weekly series and regular pay-per-views. \u00a0Name fighters began to emerge. \u00a0Fighters that fans loved or hated but would tune in or equally importantly pay to see fight. \u00a0Many thought the<strong> rise of the UFC<\/strong> would be the<strong> death of boxing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Boxing fans<\/strong> had heard that before. \u00a0So had the folks in the video below. \u00a0Check it out and we&#8217;ll continue after you watch.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/s1YAbVvwvvc\" height=\"281\" width=\"500\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The Fighters\u00a0<\/strong><\/em> looks interesting. \u00a0Will it bring back boxing? \u00a0Who knows? \u00a0It could be the start though. \u00a0And the kicker is <strong>Dana <\/strong><em>&#8220;UFC President&#8221;<\/em><strong> White<\/strong> is one of the creative forces behind the show.<\/p>\n<p>I know I&#8217;ll tune. \u00a0I&#8217;m a fight fan.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mmafighting.com\/2013\/11\/21\/5131862\/ufc-president-dana-white-returns-to-boxing-with-the-fighters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>MMA Fighting<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Growing up I was a fight fan. \u00a0That meant I was a boxing fan.
