{"id":9186,"date":"2013-12-05T18:00:26","date_gmt":"2013-12-05T22:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=9186"},"modified":"2021-03-11T16:25:37","modified_gmt":"2021-03-11T20:25:37","slug":"z-view-rififi-means-trouble","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigzablo.com\/?p=9186","title":{"rendered":"Z-View: &#8220;Rififi&#8221;&#8230; Means Trouble"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/stallonezone.com\/zone\/2013\/z120513rififi_review2.png\" width=\"500\" height=\"705\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Pitch:<\/strong>\u00a0&#8220;Hey, Jules Dassin the director behind American films such as &#8220;Brute Force&#8221; and &#8220;The Naked City&#8221; has been blacklisted in America. \u00a0I bet we could get him on the cheap to make a low-budget heist film!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Let&#8217;s do it!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Tagline:<\/strong>\u00a0 &#8220;Rififi\u00a0&#8230;means Trouble!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Overview:<\/strong>\u00a0 After returning home after a five-year stint in prison for a jewelry heist, Tony\u00a0le St\u00e9phanois is recruited by his old crime partners for a hit and run heist on a jewelry store. \u00a0Tony declines, but later counters with a bigger plan&#8230; against all odds they&#8217;ll pull a robbery that will get them millions if they&#8217;re successful and dead if they&#8217;re not. \u00a0Before it is over one of the crew will betray them. \u00a0A child will be kidnapped and both the cops and gangsters will be after them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Good:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The planning for the heist. \u00a0It&#8217;s interesting how the characters work out their elaborate plan where any mistake &#8211; any sound &#8211; could cause it to go sideways.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The heist itself &#8211; around 30 minutes without dialogue. \u00a0It&#8217;s tense, brilliant film-making.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The fact that the robbery isn&#8217;t at the climax of the film. \u00a0It would be the endgame in a normal film. \u00a0In &#8220;Rififi&#8221; it is the catalyst for a bigger story.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The characters in this film are perfectly cast.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The director&#8217;s stylistic choices. \u00a0I love this movie!
