He was going there to confront <strong>Karloff<\/strong> who <strong>Lugosi<\/strong> knows was a traitor who caused the death of thousands including <strong>Lugosi&#8217;s wife<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Karloff<\/strong> welcomes them in.\u00a0 On the surface he seems a genial host, but is actually a <strong>Satanist<\/strong> who plans to murder the young bride in a ritual. \u00a0The movie has all the hallmarks of a <strong>1930&#8217;s horror movie<\/strong>: big name stars, a mad scientist, an old dark house full of secret passages\/rooms, the dead coming back to life, a strange manservant, revenge and more.<\/p>\n<p>*** Beware \u2013 minor spoilers are found below ***<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Good<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Karloff<\/strong> and <strong>Lugosi<\/strong> in the first [and perhaps best] of their many on-screen team-ups.<\/li>\n<li>The overriding atmosphere of things being slightly off-kilter created through creative set design, costume choices and the physical appearance of<strong> Karloff<\/strong> and others.<\/li>\n<li>Playing chess for the lives of the newly weds.<\/li>\n<li>The banter between <strong>Karloff<\/strong> and<strong> Lugosi<\/strong> where what is said it subtext for the true meaning.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lugosi&#8217;s<\/strong> manservant is creepy, but loyal to the end.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Bad<\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">What <strong>Karloff<\/strong> has in his secret rooms below the house.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Lugosi<\/strong> is the hero, but has there ever been a creepier one?
