“The Harder They Fall” Starring Idris Elba – The Trailer is Here!

I like the trailer to The Harder They Fall which looks to be a stylish western.  I’m a huge fan of Idris Elba and Delroy Lindo is always a welcome addition.  Who doesn’t love a fun western.  Deal me in.

When outlaw Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) discovers that his enemy Rufus Buck (Idris Elba) is being released from prison he rounds up his gang to track Rufus down and seek revenge. Those riding with him in this assured, righteously new school Western include his former love Stagecoach Mary (Zazie Beetz), his right and left hand men — hot-tempered Bill Pickett (Edi Gathegi) and fast drawing Jim Beckwourth (R.J. Cyler)—and a surprising adversary-turned-ally.

Rufus Buck has his own fearsome crew, including “Treacherous” Trudy Smith (Regina King) and Cherokee Bill (LaKeith Stanfield), and they are not a group that knows how to lose.

Directed by Jeymes Samuel, written by Samuel and Boaz Yakin, produced by Shawn Carter, James Lassiter, Lawrence Bender and Jeymes Samuel, and featuring a red hot soundtrack and a stunning all-star cast, including Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, Delroy Lindo, LaKeith Stanfield, Danielle Deadwyler, Edi Gathegi, R.J. Cyler, Damon Wayans Jr., Deon Cole with Regina King and Idris Elba revenge has never been served colder.

“Out of Death” Starring Bruce Willis & Jaime King – The Poster and Trailer are Here!

Bruce Willis and Jaime King in Out of Death – and we have the poster above and trailer below.  This doesn’t look bad, but the trailer seems to give away everything.

Retired cop Jack Harris’s (Bruce Willis) solace in the remote wilderness is hijacked when he encounters a lone hiker, Shannon (Jaime King), who’s on the run from dirty police. Determined to help her at any cost, Jack must tap into his killer instincts to survive the wilderness and the human predators within it.

Directed by: Mike Burns
Starring: Bruce Willis, Jaime King, Lala Kent

“The Suicide Squad” – The Poster and Trailer are Here!

Today we have a poster and trailer for Suicide Squad.

Normally Suicide Squad wouldn’t be something that would be on my must-see list.  What changes that is a few things:
1.  Sly Stallone voices the King Shark character.
2.  It has a great cast: In addition to Stallone we have Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Michael Rooker, Viola Davis, Nathan Fillion and more!
3.  It’s directed by James Gunn.
4.  It’s written by James Gunn and John Ostrander (who wrote the comics).
5.  I can see it for free on opening day on HBOMax.

Our only hope to save the world is a bunch of supervillains — what could go wrong? Check out the new trailer for James Gunn’s #TheSuicideSquad, in theaters and streaming exclusively on HBO Max* August 6.

*Only available on the Ad-Free plan. Available for 31 days from theatrical release. Films and release dates subject to change.

The All Time Best Female-Led Action Movies!

Daniel Kurland at CBR.com came up with his list of the 10 Best Female-Led Action Movies.  Kurland’s list is a good one, so I thought I’d compare my rankings (using his choices) to his.  Here is how things shook out:

Kurland

Zablo

10/10. Aliens

*** Hanna
*** Alita: Battle Angel

9/10. Kill Bill, Volumes 1 & 2

8/10. Underworld

8/10. V For Vendetta

7/10. Terminator 2: Judgment Day

7/10. Underworld

6/10. V For Vendetta

06/10. Kill Bill, Volumes 1 & 2

5/10. Hanna

05/10. The Resident Evil Series

4/10. Atomic Blonde

4/10. Atomic Blonde

3/10. Alita: Battle Angel

3/10. Aliens

2/10. Mad Max: Fury Road

2/10. Terminator 2: Judgment Day

1/10. The Resident Evil Series

1/10. Mad Max: Fury Road

I hadn’t seen Hanna or Alita, so I didn’t rank them.

My top four could possibly change spots depending on my mood. I believe them to be the cream of the crop.

I would have found a spot in my top ten, probably at #5 for Gena Davis and The Long Kiss Goodnight and at #6 Gina Carano for Haywire.

“Hollywood Bulldogs: The Rise and Falls of the Great British Stuntmen” – The Poster & Trailer are Here!

I like the poster for Hollywood Bulldogs but think that the movie will be better than the trailer presents.  I’ll check Hollywood Bulldogs out when I can.

Hollywood Bulldogs tells the rough-and-tumble story of the small community of British stunt performers who went on to dominate Hollywood in the 1970s and 80s.

They created and performed the iconic action sequences of 007, Indiana Jones, Superman, Rambo, Star Wars, Conan, the Alien films and pretty much everything since.

“Settlers” Starring Sofia Boutella &Jonny Lee Miller – The Poster and Trailer are Here!

The poster for Settlers is just okay at best,  but I like the trailer.  I’m also a fan Sofia Boutella so I plan to check out Settlers.

Director: Wyatt Rockefeller
Starring: Sofia Boutella, Jonny Lee Miller, Brooklynn Prince

Mankind’s earliest settlers on the Martian frontier do what they must to survive the cosmic elements and each other in this science-fiction thrill ride.

“Twist” Starring Michael Cain, Lena Headey & Parkour – The Poster & 2 Trailers are Here!

Today we have a poster and two trailers for Twist.  I think the poster is okay.  The US trailer is first with the UK following.  I like both trailers but give the nod to the US version.  I’m a fan of parkour, it’s good to see Michael Caine and Lena Headey.  I’ll check out Twist at some point.

And the original UK trailer…

RIP: Ned Beatty

Ned Beatty, 83, passed away in sleep this morning from natural causes.  Mr. Beatty who was equally adept in both comedic and dramatic roles, alternated between feature films and television roles making whatever production he was in better.

Ned Beatty began his career in John Boorman’s highly regarded adaptation of James Dickey’s novel Deliverance starring Burt Reynolds, Jon Voight and Ronny Cox.  Mr. Beatty then went on to have a career in feature films and television that lasted over 40 years and packed his resume with 166 acting credits.  He was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actor for his role in Network.

Ned Beatty was one of this character actors who was good in any role he took on and that kept him in demand.  Mr. Beatty’s feature film highlights include six films with Burt Reynolds, Superman and Superman II with Christopher Reeve, as well as Nashville, Network, 1941 and Back to School.  His television credits include: Gunsmoke. The Execution of Private Slovik, MASH, Hawaii 5-0, The Rockford Files and so many more.

Ned Beatty was always a welcome addition whenever he appeared on screen.  The enormity of his resume would make any actor proud.  What a career!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ned Beatty’s family, friends and fans.
