This trailer for District 9 is just creepy enough to make me think this could be a very cool monster movie.
“Curse of the Werewolf” Werewolf
Here’s another gem from the ZONE vault. I dug it then… and I digs it now. This is a spot illustration created by Doug Hazlewood back in 1977. It’s of course a drawing of Oliver Reed from “Curse of the Werewolf.” What, you didn’t recognize ole Oliver under all that make-up?
Growing up I always thought that the wolfman was one of the coolest of all monsters and that the “Curse of the Werewolf” werewolf was the version of the wolfman that I liked best… and I still do!
Dig That Crazy Poster
I really like this poster for the re-make of George Romero’s “The Crazies.” I discovered it while reading a set report from the good folks at ShockTill You Drop.

Darwyn Cooke’s Big Update
Yesterday Darwyn Cooke wrote a guest article for Jimmy Palmiotti’s blog and gave us quite an update! Here are a few highlights:
- Darwyn is providing covers for The Last Resort which he describes as a “Horror/Comedy… kind of a cross between an Irwin Allen picture and some of the great serials that you’d get back in the day from Heavy Metal.” It’s written by Jimmy Palmiotti and will be published by IDW this summer.
- Darwyn is designing and contributing color for the dustjackets on The Complete Torpedo Collection, the five volume set which for the first time ever collects the entire Sanchez Abuli and Jordi Bernet classic series.
- Our buddy, John Highashi got a shout out for his bowling prowess!
- Darwyn’s work on Richard Stark’s The Hunter is nearly complete and the book is scheduled for a July release!
- Darwyn’s friend Calum Johnston hosts “Almost Darwyn Cooke’s Blog” which provides updates on what the main man is working on. Until yesterday I didn’t know this blog existed and now it’s on my must read list.

Maberry & Patient Zero
I’m currently about halfway through Patient Zero by Jonathan Maberry and I’m totally diggin’ it. The story reminds me of something that you’d get if you combined the best of Charlie Huston, Lee Child, Steve Niles and Duane Swierczynski. Yeah, it’s THAT good.

“28 days later” Gets a Criminal Cover Artist
Sean Phillips announced that he will be providing the covers for the 28 days later comic series. Sean is an excellent choice for cover artist. I’m interested to hear whose going to be writing and drawing the stories. It might be cool to have a rotating art team.
“28 days” Again
I’m a fan of “28 days later” and its sequel “28 weeks later” so I was happy to read Boom Studios announce that a new comic series will premiere in July bridging the events between the two movies. Although a creative team has yet to be announced, this project sounds like it could be a winner. Especially if the art for the new series is as good as the cover above.
Killer of Demons Kills
The Pitch: “Frailty” plus a sense of humor meets comic books as presented by writer Christopher Yost and artist Scott Wegner.
The Overview: Dave Sloan wakes up to see actual demons from hell are living among us. Only Dave can see them. Well, that‘s not quite true. The little heavenly cherub angel can see ’em and, between puffs on his cigar, is telling Dave to kill them all.
The Good: Wegner’s art works really well with Yost’s story. Demons and humans, seen through Dave’s eyes as they go about their daily activities. The ad for “Old Scratch.” The last page.
The Bad: What happens if you look like a demon to Dave.
The Ugly: The second issue isn’t available NOW.
The Summary: Killer of Demons is a lot of fun. Yost and Wegner have created a winner!

A Whole Lot of Walking Dead
If you’re a Walking Dead fan… or if you’ve been waiting for the right time to jump on board one of the best regularly published comics in recent history… or if you’ve been hoping to score some back issues but just can’t find them or they’re too expensive… then you may want to pre-order a copy of The Walking Dead: Compendium One. This big boy is 1,088 pages reprinting The Walking Dead issues 1-8 in one massive trade paperback edition.
The Goon Lookin’ Good
It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a year since it was announced that Eric Powell’s The Goon had been optioned by David [Se7en] Fincher for an antimated 3D feature. Harry, at AICN, posted a first look at what we can expect with two huge images that you can see here.
Drag Me to Hell
Although don’t plan to see Sam Raimi’s new horror movie, “Drag Me to Hell” until it hits dvd or cable [it opens May 29th at a theater near you], I have to admit that one scene in this trailer made me jump.
