Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead” Wins 1st Ever Oscar as Fan Favorite!

With all the talk about The Slap at last night’s Academy Awards, the fact that Army of the Dead won a Oscar in the (first ever) Fan Favorite category may have slipped by.  From Variety

This year, a best popular film category was added to recognize a film chosen by fans, based on Twitter votes. That award went to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead.

Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead won a freaking Oscar and I couldn’t be happier about it.

Michael Bay’s “Ambulance” – The Second Trailer is Here!

Whoo-hooo!  Hold on for Michael Bay’s Ambulance – the second trailer is here!  Count me in for the ride!

Over one day across the streets of L.A., three lives will change forever.

In this breakneck thriller from director-producer Michael Bay, decorated veteran Will Sharp (Emmy winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Candyman, The Matrix Resurrections), desperate for money to cover his wife’s medical bills, asks for help from the one person he knows he shouldn’t—his adoptive brother Danny (Oscar® nominee Jake Gyllenhaal, Zodiac, Spider-Man: Far From Home). A charismatic career criminal, Danny instead offers him a score: the biggest bank heist in Los Angeles history: $32 million. With his wife’s survival on the line, Will can’t say no.

But when their getaway goes spectacularly wrong, the desperate brothers hijack an ambulance with a wounded cop clinging to life and ace EMT Cam Thompson (Eiza González, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Baby Driver) onboard. In a high-speed pursuit that never stops, Will and Danny must evade a massive, city-wide law enforcement response, keep their hostages alive, and somehow try not to kill each other, all while executing the most insane escape L.A. has ever seen.

Ambulance is produced by Michael Bay, p.g.a., Bradley J. Fischer, p.g.a. (Zodiac, Shutter Island) for New Republic Pictures, James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, 2022’s Scream) and William Sherak (Ready or Not, 2022’s Scream) for Project X, and Oscar® nominee Ian Bryce (Transformers franchise, Saving Private Ryan).

The screenplay is by Chris Fedak (Prodigal Son, Chuck), based on the original story and screenplay for the 2005 Danish thriller Ambulance by Laurits Munch-Petersen and Lars Andreas Pedersen.

“The Survivor” Directed by Barry Levinson and Starring Ben Foster – The Trailer is Here!

Mark your calendars for April 27th.  That’s when The Survivor, directed by Barry Levinson and starring Ben Foster,
Vicky Krieps, Peter Sarsgaard, John Leguizamo and Danny DeVito premieres!  Check out the trailer below!

Barry Levinson’s biographical drama stars Ben Foster as boxer Harry Haft, who looks to carry on after fighting to survive in the Holocaust.

When the Nazis invade Poland, Harry Haft is sent to the Auschwitz extermination camp. He is a powerfully built man, so a charming but sadistic Nazi officer offers him an impossible deal: fight fellow prisoners in the boxing ring for the amusement of his captors, or die. The winner of the bout survives to fight again. The loser is shot or sent to the gas chamber. How far will Harry’s will to live take him? What will he do to escape the death all around him?

“Glass” (2019) / Z-View

Glass (2019)

Director:  M. Night Shyamalan

Writers: M. Night Shyamalan

Starring:  James McAvoy, Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Sarah Paulson and M. Night Shyamalan.

Tagline:  Real villains are among us. Real heroes are within us..

The Overview:  Beware of Spoilers…

David Dunn (Willis), the hero with super-strength and the brilliant but evil Elijah Price (Jackson), both from Unbreakable along with Kevin Wendell Crumb (McAvoy), the serial killer with multiple personalities from Split find themselves locked up together in a mental ward.  Dr. Ellie Staple (Paulson) is providing therapy to convince the three that they don’t have super powers, even though she knows that they do.  So what is her end game?

McAvoy is fun to watch as he moves from personality to personality.  He’s the star of the show.  Willis and Jackson don’t have a lot to do until the end, but their presence is essential (and felt) through0ut the movie.  Paulson is always good and a great addition to this world.  Shyamalan’s twist works well and sets up more movies in this universe.

Glass was fun.  It rates 3 of 5 stars.

Ranking All “Rocky” Fights From Worst to First!

DekeDasilva (from the StalloneZone forum) posted a link to Ranking The Various ROCKY Fights: From Worst To First at ActioNews.  Several forum members weighed in and it got me thinking about how I would rank Rocky’s fights from the franchise.  So here are my rankings compared to those at ActioNews and my thoughts on each…

ActioNews

Craig

9. Rocky vs Tommy Gunn (Rocky V, 1990)

9. Rocky vs Tommy Gunn (Rocky V, 1990)

8. Rocky vs. Thunderlips (Rocky III, 1982)

8. Apollo Creed vs Ivan Drago (Rocky IV, 1985)

7. Apollo Creed vs Ivan Drago (Rocky IV, 1985)

7. Rocky vs Clubber Lang, 1st fight (Rocky III, 1982)

6. Rocky vs Clubber Lang, 1st fight (Rocky III, 1982)

6. Rocky vs Mason Dixon (Rocky Balboa, 2006)

5. Rocky vs Mason Dixon (Rocky Balboa, 2006)

5. Rocky vs Apollo Creed, Rematch (Rocky II, 1979)

4. Rocky vs Ivan Drago (Rocky IV, 1985)

4. Rocky vs. Thunderlips (Rocky III, 1982)

3. Rocky vs Apollo Creed, 1st fight (Rocky, 1976)

3. Rocky vs Ivan Drago (Rocky IV, 1985)

2. Rocky vs Apollo Creed, Rematch (Rocky II, 1979)

2. Rocky vs Apollo Creed, 1st fight (Rocky, 1976)

1. Rocky Vs Clubber Lang, Rematch (Rocky III, 1982)

1. Rocky Vs Clubber Lang, Rematch (Rocky III, 1982)

9. Rocky vs Tommy Gunn (Rocky V, 1990): All of the fights in the Rocky franchise are well done, and while this one came in last, it is still entertaining. It did feel a bit out of place since all the other battles took place in the ring.

8. Apollo Creed vs Ivan Drago (Rocky IV, 1985): I enjoyed Creed’s fight against Drago better in Sly’s director’s cut, but the fact that Apollo dies makes it hard to rank this fight higher.

7. Rocky vs Clubber Lang, 1st fight (Rocky III, 1982): This fight was short but not sweet. Rocky gets knocked out and Mickey dies.

6. Rocky vs Mason Dixon (Rocky Balboa, 2006): Rocky proves his still has the “Eye of the Tiger”.

5. Rocky vs Apollo Creed, Rematch (Rocky II, 1979): What a fight and what a finish!

4. Rocky vs. Thunderlips (Rocky III, 1982): While this wasn’t a boxing match, I love it. Rocky is definitely the underdog – the size difference is amazing. The fight has humor, drama and is exciting from start to finish.

3. Rocky vs Ivan Drago (Rocky IV, 1985): Rocky has never had a more personal reason to fight and has never fought in a more hostile environment, yet he still finds the will to win.

2. Rocky vs Apollo Creed, 1st fight (Rocky, 1976): The fight that kicked off the entire franchise. Rocky was given no chance to win the title, but all he wanted to do was be standing when the final bell rang. Surprisingly (because it’s a movie and heroes are expected to win) Rocky loses, yet the audience is standing and cheering!

1. Rocky Vs Clubber Lang, Rematch (Rocky III, 1982): Rocky is going against a warrior who destroyed him in the first fight. He’s lost Mickey and perhaps “the Eye of the Tiger”. Will Apollo’s training and Adrian’s heart-to-heart provide the motivation to win? (You better believe it!)

“Eraser: Reborn” – The Poster and Trailer are Here!

The poster for Eraser: Reborn is pretty generic.  The trailer isn’t bad, so I’ll check out Eraser: Reborn when it comes to streaming.

25 years after the blockbuster Arnold Schwarzenegger hit, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release Eraser: Reborn on Digital, Blu-ray, and DVD on June 7, 2022. A reboot of the 1996 blockbuster, this all-new action film follows US Marshal Mason Pollard, a specialist in engineering the fake deaths of witnesses that need to leave no trace of their existence.

The film stars Dominic Sherwood (Shadowhunters) as Mason Pollard, Jacky Lai (V-Wars) as Rina Kimura, McKinley Belcher III (Marriage Story) as Paul Whitlock, a mentor to Pollard, and Eddie Ramos (Animal Kingdom) as Sugar Jax, a local gangster.

Eraser: Reborn is directed by John Pogue (The Quiet Ones, Deep Blue Sea 3) and written by Michael Weiss (Jarhead3: The Siege). Hunt Lowry (Donnie Darko) and Patty Reed (Pure Country Pure Heart) produce for Roserock Films.

“Outsiders” – This rabbit hole is deeper than you think. – The Poster and Trailer are Here!

I like the poster and trailer for Outsiders.  Heck, I even like the tagline: This rabbit hole is deeper than you think.  Deal me in.

When high school student Jaylen Brown finds himself under suspicion after his classmate disappears during a party, prejudice quickly begins to boil to the surface of his small southern town as all fingers point toward him. Working against the clock to clear his own name, he begins to unravel a massive web of secrets that all point to otherworldly forces at play.
Directed by: Delmar Washington
Starring: Skylan Brooks, Rutina Wesley, Taryn Manning, Shane West, Clark Backo

Night Teeth (2021) / Z-View

Night Teeth (2021)

Director:  Adam Randall

Writers: Brent Dillon

Starring:  Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Debby Ryan, Lucy Fry, Raúl Castillo and Alfie Allen.

Tagline:  Paint the Town Red.

The Overview:  Beware of Spoilers…

A college student (Lendeborg Jr.) takes his brother’s shift as a chauffer for the evening.  His fare is two young women (Blair & Fry) who say that they plan to party-hop throughout the night.  The reality is that they are two vampires with something far more sinister in mind.

Night Teeth works thanks to a fast-paced story, interesting direction, a likeable lead character (Lendeborg), a couple of sexy vampires (Ryan & Fry) and an unlikeable one (Allen).  If you’re looking for high art or a movie with deep meaning, then this isn’t the one for you.  However, if you’re after a night of partying with a cool chauffer and a couple of bad girls who happen to be vampires, then this ride is for you.  Night Teeth rates 3 of 5 stars.
