We Are the Twilight, is a new 4 issue comic series created, written, drawn, colored and lettered by Benjamin Morse. It is on Kickstarter now. Here’s the synopsis…
Enter the story’s hero– Captain Lancet. He’s a 1930’s All-American crime buster* who accidentally creates the world’s greatest villain before waking up a century in the future. He’ll need to adjust to a strange new world– Fritz Lang’s Metropolis with some cyberpunk dystopia sprinkled in– if he wants to overthrow the totalitarian vampire cult that now dominates the future.*some of these things are not, strictly speaking, the truth.
If you’re a fan of Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon serials, Fleischer Bros Superman cartoons, Golden Age Comics or old school horror and crime stories, We Are Scarlet Twilight is made for you! I hope you’ll check it out!
Here are some preview pages.
We Are the Twilight Kickstarter offers digital as well as individual issues. Because Morse wants to get his comic to as many people as possible, the digital issue is only two bucks. I spend more than that on daily iced coffee!
I jumped on this Kickstarter, We Are the Twilight looks like a fun ride. Click here for more info.
THE DUSK, is a new graphic novel created by Alex Segura & Elizabeth Little (writers) and David Hahn (artist), with Ellie Wright (colorist) and Taylor Esposito (letterer). It is on Kickstarter now. Here’s the synopsis…
Down below the abandoned skyscrapers and crumbling colonial architecture, beneath the buzzing lights and ragged billboards, is a fading, floundering city propped up by vice, extortion, and fear. This is BLACKSTONE—a dark, mirror image of Boston or Philadelphia. A city whose history dates back to the earliest days of our nation.
A once-mighty industrial titan—now teetering on the edge of oblivion. A city that used to mean something. Blackstone public defender Jaime Nuñez – former baseball hero, now a divorced dad to a precocious teen – is always trying to do his best. But the criminal justice system is not without limits. When Jaime comes into an unexpected fortune and some surprising, super heroic tools, he discovers there might be another, more direct way to do some actual good in the world.

That’s my buddy, Jim Ivey. If you’ve been a reader here for any length of time you’ve probably read about Jim. For the last couple of decades, I’ve gotten a group of Jim Ivey’s friends together twice a year to celebrate Jim (at his birthday and Christmas). We’d meet at a breakfast location for a marathon session of stories, remembrances and gifts for Jim. We were unable to meet last year due to the Covid pandemic.
Jim’s 96th birthday is on April 15th. If you would like to send a birthday card, that would be awesome. I’ll send out all cards received. Please try to get the cards to me by April 6th, so Jim gets them by his birthday. You can also contact me on Facebook or Twitter. I would love for Jim to be surprised with many cards from his friends.
I first met Mr. Ivey back in 1977. He was the owner of The Cartoon Museum in Orlando, Florida.
The Cartoon Museum was stuffed wall-to-wall with original art from around the world. The art spanned the gamut from comic book to comic strip to political cartoons to magazine illustrations. Jim had over 100,000 comic books and magazines for sale. You could find comic book scripts and autographs, and well, you get the idea. Plus you never knew who would be passing through. It could be a famous comic book or magazine illustrator, a political or newspaper cartoonist and even a couple of times famous faces from movies or tv.
Jim was also one of the founding members of Orlando Con. Orlando Con was held yearly and attracted cartoonists from around the country plus a movie/tv star or two. Guests included Joe Kubert, Wil Eisner, C.C. Beck, Hal Foster, Roy Crane, Jack Davis, Harvey Kurtzman, Robert Cummings, Jock Mahoney and many, many others.
Jim was also a political cartoonist for the San Francisco Chronicle and the Orlando Sentinel. He was the creator of the Thoughts of Man cartoon that ran in newspapers throughout the country. Jim was the publisher of cARTtoon, a quarterly magazine. And that’s just an overview of some of the many accomplishments of Jim Ivey.

In his newsletter that came out yesterday, Ed Brubaker shared the cover of the third book in his and Sean Phillips’ Reckless series. Titled Destroy All Monsters, it features their character Ethan Reckless. Brubaker also announced:
Our original plan was to do the first three books in the series, then take a break and do something else and then come back for more Reckless adventures, but then I had ideas for two more… so we’ll be doing five of these in a row unless something goes wrong.
If you’re not up to speed on the Reckless series check out Ed Brubaker gets Reckless with Sean Phillips at The Beat.

Arnold Schwarzenegger recently started a monthly newsletter. I signed up and am glad I did. Arnold gives a real glimpse to what is going on in his life, his passions/causes, health tips, jokes, and more. The newsletter is positive, upbeat and inspiring. Here are a few tidbits…
I get questions non-stop about how I stay positive during the pandemic, how I train, how I eat, and I decided I can use this newsletter to answer questions and keep all of you up to date on what I’m doing, what I’m thinking, and what vision I’m currently chasing…
I decided to switch from sweatpants to regular pants for a meeting recently and let me tell you, I spent the whole meeting feeling like I was in a straitjacket, just waiting to put my sweats back on… Now I’m committing to all of you: This month I am going to drop the weight I gained and get back to 218 again. I am going to conquer March. Who is with me?…
One thing that has always bothered me about politics is that some people refuse to even sit down and talk with people from the other party. It’s absurd. But political parties are in the business of villainizing the other side. That’s how they make money – the more they make you hate or fear the enemy, the more donations come in. I’ve had it…
If there is one political message you leave with, please don’t make people the enemy over politics, because then you can’t talk and find common ground. Even when someone is prejudiced, I try not to demonize them, because once I do that, I have lost my chance to open their mind and get them to think differently…
On a much lighter note, here is some advice for those of you always struggling with finding gifts. I celebrated Valentine’s Day by painting some handmade cards like I always do…
My Netflix spy series – which reminded me of a new version of True Lies, so I signed on immediately – is coming along and once it’s safe to shoot we’ll get going. I have also signed on to a few other scripts I’m excited to share but the one I’m really excited for is the script for the sequel to Twins, Triplets…
That’s just a small taste. If you’re interested in getting Arnold’s newsletter just click over and look for the sign-up at the bottom right of the page.

NEO-NOIR FEATURE ‘DRIVE ALL NIGHT’ TO DEBUT AT 2021 CINEQUEST! DRIVE ALL NIGHT, a new feature film starring Yutaka Takeuchi (Marvel’s ‘The Defenders’) will make its World Premiere in competition at the Cinequest Film Festival, running March 20-30, 2021. Voted Best Film Festival by readers of USA Today, Cinequest draws an audience of over 110,000 to its annual event celebrating innovation, discovery and creativity in the heart of Silicon Valley. “Cinequest is always searching for films that stretch the boundaries of storytelling, and visions from artists who are looking to reinvent genres. ‘Drive All Night’ is a spectacular example of a story we have never seen before. It took us by surprise, took us on a ride, and it swept us up in one of the most unpredictable journeys,” said Michael Rabehl, Programming Director at Cinequest.
‘Drive All Night’ follows Dave (Yutaka Takeuchi), a reclusive swing-shift taxi driver, whose night takes an unexpected turn after he picks up a mysterious passenger, Cara (Lexy Hammonds), a young woman hiding a dark secret. As she makes him drive through the city on a series of bizarre excursions, things get increasingly more surreal the further into the night they go. Sarah Dumont (‘Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse,’ ‘The Royals’) plays Morgan, a sympathetic waitress who works at a diner that Dave often frequents, while Johnny Gilligan plays Lenny, an obsessive hitman guided by strange visions, who pursues our protagonists through the night.
‘Drive All Night’ is the debut film from award-winning writer-director Peter Hsieh. While Hsieh is most known for his staged plays that have been produced and workshopped at theaters across the country, including Nylon Fusion, Hollywood Fringe, San Jose Rep’s Emerging Artist Lab (SJREAL), T. Schreiber Studio, and the Asian American Theatre Company, ‘Drive All Night’ marks his first foray into feature filmmaking. “I wanted to develop a complex and layered narrative that became increasingly more dream-like and surreal as the story developed. My goal is to take the audience down the rabbit hole on a fever dream trip through wonderland and hopefully have them come out the other side both baffled and entertained,” said Hsieh.

The Conan drawing above was created by Robin Recht. Recht’s art is new to me and after seeing the drawing above I searched for more information on and art by Recht.

Robin Recht is a French artist. He studied in Paris, and has created artwork for comics and role-playing games. From what I’ve gathered most of his comic work is published overseas. I would definitely love to see English translations of his comic work.

The Creature from the Black Lagoon is one of two prints by Juan Ramos that sold out on the first day that they were launched! The other print is an alternate poster for the original Frankenstein. The prints were released by Bottleneck Gallery and it is worth a click over to see both The Creature and Frankenstein in slightly larger versions (plus all the other cool stuff on site).
