R.I.P. – R.B. Greaves

I just learned that R.B. Greaves passed away on September 27, 2012 at the age of 67

R.B. Greaves was best known for his million selling hit, “Take a Letter Maria” which was released in 1969.  He followed up a year later with a cover of “Always Something There to Remind Me” which peaked at 27 on Billboard’s Hot 100.  His cover of “A Whiter Shade of Pale” reached 87 the same year.

“Take a Letter Maria” ended up selling over 2 million copies and was the first 45 I ever bought.  I loved that song (and still do) and every time I hear it, it takes me back to my childhood.

Our  thoughts and prayers go out to R.B. Greaves, his family, friends and fans.

Alexis Ziritt and Rambo

Alexis Ziritt makes his first appearance in my Stallone Theme Sketch Collection. Alexis is the co-founder of Fistful Apparel and the indie comics co-op Calavera Comics. When I saw that Alexis was taking sketch card commissions, I decided to get on board for a couple. I asked Alexis to pick two from Jack Carter, John Rambo and Cobra. Alexis liked the theme and decided to do all three.

Kirkman & Moore Settle Suit!

Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore have amicably settled their suit over The Walking DeadIn a joint statement sent to CBR.com it was announced that…

  • “Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore are pleased to jointly announce that they have reached an amicable agreement in their respective lawsuits and all parties have settled the entire matter to everyone’s mutual satisfaction. Neither side will be discussing any details but will instead happily and productively spend their time focused on their own work and move on in their lives.”

Excellent news.  Truly excellent.

X-Men 133 Not #1??

I was checking out CBR.com’s Top Five Most Iconic Wolverine Covers and couldn’t believe that Byrne and Austin’s cover for X-Men 133 not only wasn’t #1, but it didn’t even make the list?

Are you kidding me?

This issue is not only iconic, but was one of the most anticipated comics ever!  The storyline had been set up for 133 to focus on Wolverine’s single-handed rescue of the team from the Hellfire Club.

X-Men 133 didn’t even make the list?

C’mon, man!

Stallone to Helm Hunter

Bloody Disgusting has reported that

  • Stallone and Lionsgate have inked up a deal to fast track Hunter for 2014 release date. Stallone is set to star, write and direct, which will be filmed in 3-D.

I really hope this pans out.  Hunter was written by James Byron Huggins specifically with Sly in mind.  It’s an awesome book that will translate into a very cool movie.

  • A beast is loose somewhere north of the Arctic Circle. It has already decimated a secret research facility and annihilated a squad of elite military guards. And the raging creature is headed south toward civilization, ready to wreak bloody devastation. It is a job Hunter cannot turn down, but he soon discovers that his prey is terror incarnate, a half-human abomination created by a renegade agency through a series of outlawed genetic experiments. It has man’s cunning, a predator’s savageness, and a prehistoric power that has transcended the ages.”

Let’s hope everything lines up and Hunter gets made with Stallone at the helm.
