Famous GPS Voices

My buddy, John Beatty, was the first person I knew to have a GPS for his car.  He took me for a test drive and showed me how the system worked.  I thought it was the coolest device going and loved how it “spoke” real time, turn-by-turn directions.  John and I got to talking about how wicked it would be if famous voices were giving the directions.   Wouldn’t it be wild to hear John Wayne, Bugs Bunny, Humphrey Bogart, Marlon Brando, Elmer Fudd, Droopy or any of a gazillion other celebs helping you find your destination?

As for me, I’m still holding out for the day when I’m driving and hear from my GPS, “Yo! Turn left at the next light” and then when I make the turn, we’ll hear, “Yo!  Adrian!  He did it!”

Cully Sees a Whole Lot of Red

Recently Cully Hamner posted the cover above that he did as one of the four Red movie prequel comics.   While I’m happy [especially for Cully] that Red was turned into a movie and that it has Bruce Willis [Bruce Willis!] in the title role; I was really hoping that the film would be a faithful adaptation of the comic series.  Instead, we’re going to get a movie inspired by the comic series.  And while the comic was more action/adventure, the film looks to be action/comedy with an emphasis on the comedy.

The movie may work.  But work or not, it won’t change how the Red graphic novel rocks.

Andrew Vachss’ Heart Transplant

Andrew Vachss has a couple of new books coming out later this year.  The Weight is a crime novel which is what most Vachss fans would expect.  Heart Transplant is something totally different.  It’s not a novel.  According to the product description it’s…

Some Fly Kicks

Growing up, I was never much into expensive, brand name tennis shoes.  It’s a good thing too, because we didn’t have a ton of money.  So I’d wear whatever was on sale.   I have to admit, that if the shoes above were available when I was a little kid, I’d be asking for a pair for my birthday or Christmas.

When I was a kid I used to love the Thursday news paper.  That’s because on Thursday there would always be a ton of movie ads for the films that were playing or opening on Friday.  Of course this was in the pre-historic days before the internet and even entertainment shows that take us on location and behind-the-scenes.  Quite often the first time you’d learn anything about a film was from the movie ad — usually a shot of the poster and tag line.  Many times the posters were better than the films they advertised… but we’ll save that for another post.

Today I want to point you in the direction of artist Sean Hartter.  Hartter is the mastermind behind vintage looking posters such as Bruce Lee playing Neo in The Matrix; Clint Eastwood as Wolverine; Gary Busey as Bizarro Superman; in a Nightmare on Elm Street and many, many more.  You can see them here and my guess is, you’ll wish some of them were for real movies.

Chipper Has Jokes & Magic

I’ve always enjoyed magic.  There for a while I thought Harry Houdini was the coolest guy who ever escaped from a straight-jacket.  [That honor goes to John Beatty since… but I digress].  Now my favorite magicians merge magic and comedy.  Chipper Lowell does just that.
