Rob Zombie for… Woolite

Rob Zombie may have been at the bottom of your list of appropriate director’s for a Woolite commercial, but after seeing what he did, you may change your opinion. I know I did. Well played, Mr. Zombie.

The official site for the Captain America movie is now up and running. Once there you can see the trailer and many cool photos. The Captain America movie can’t get here soon enough for me, but at least we have the site to hold us over.

Although we’re not even half way through 2011, you can now pre-order a 2012 Walking Dead calendar! What zombie-lovin’ fan wouldn’t want one or two?

Here’s a heads-up on a new crime comic that’s coming out this September from IMAGE Comics. Near Death was created by Jay Faerber [author] and Simone Guglielmini [artist]. The series is based on the concept that…

This Captain America poster by Paolo Rivera is perfection. Paolo absolutely nailed it. Marvel liked it so much that they turned it in to a limited edition print to be given to the cast and crew of the movie. How cool is that? Very cool says I.
The great thing about the attention that the poster is getting is that it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. I’ve been following Paolo’s art blog for some time and we’ve exchanged a few e-mails here and there. Paolo has always been quick to respond and humble about his talents. When I asked Paolo if I could do a post about his Captain America poster he said he’d be “honored.” It’s always great to see a local talent score big and it’s especially exciting when it’s someone as nice and talented as Paolo.

Mike Torrance aka The Krayola Kidd decided to go a round with Sly as Rocky Balboa.
You can see more of Mike’s art at The Daily Sketch with The Krayola Kidd and his Deviant Art site. Mike is available for commissions and his prices are very reasonable. You’re also going to be happy to know that once a month Mike has a contest for someone to win a free sketchcard!

UFC 131 was last night and the card was a winner. Unfortunately for all the fighters the same could not be said. Let’s look at my predictions and results:
The following bouts were all on the main card pay-per-view:

UFC 131 airs tonight. There will be prelim fights on Facebook and Youtube. SPIKE will also air other prelims and then the feature fights will appear on pay-per-view starting at 9pm EST. Here are my predictions:

September 2011 looks to be a great month for comics coming from Dark Horse. My favorite Dark Horse cover, in a month full of cool covers, goes to Eric Powell for his iconic The Goon Volume 5: Wicked Inclinations 2nd Edition TPB.

That’s the cover to Conan: Road of Kings #7 with art by Aleksi Briclot. Although I’m not familiar with Briclot’s art, it didn’t stop me from choosing his Conan cover as my favorite from Dark Horse Comics August solicitations.
Conan: Road of Kings #7 was written by Roy Thomas, with interior art by Mike Hawthorne (pencils), John Lucas (inks) and Dan Jackson (colors).

Have you ever wondered how much contestants on American Idol make? I’m not talking about the winners, I’m referring to the guys and gals that make the cut to get on the show but don’t go all the way. And who pays for their outfits? Do they get meal allowances? How much cheese do they get for the Ford commercials?
You can find out the answers to all those questions and more right here thanks to Bankrate.com.

I spent this past weekend at HeroesCon and had a blast. I will do a proper con report later in the week with some photos and more details. Each year Heroes is a lot of fun, but this year was especially so. I attended panels, got several new sketches for my Stallone theme collection, discovered some amazing new [at least to me] artists, got to visit with old friends, attended a Drink & Draw session hosted by Urbanbarbarian Dan Panosian, Rev. Dave Johnson and Jeff Johnson [the talents who created D&D], hung out with my wife, LittleJohn and his bride, got the inside scoop on a long-running joke played on Mr. Mean Green Jeans himself, and so much more.
If you’re at all interested in Heroes tune in this weekend!

I was sad to hear that James Arness died on Friday, June 5, 2011, at the age of 88 of natural causes. Most fans know Mr. Arness as Marshall Matt Dillon from the long-running tv series Gunsmoke which aired from 1955 to 1975 and then returned in the form of five made-for-television movies. If Matt Dillon was the only role that James Arness was known for, it’d still be enough reason to post about his passing. I spent many hours watching Gunsmoke with my grandfather and those are memories I’ll always treasure. [It was my grandfather who informed me that James Arness and Peter Graves [Mission Impossible] were brothers. LOL. The things that we remember.]
James Arness was also an important part of my childhood because he played roles in two of my favorite monster movies. Mr. Arness was the thing in the classic The Thing from Another Planet. He also played the romantic lead in another sci-fi classic, Them! You can also find James Arness in the John Wayne classic, Hondo! One of my favorite James Arness‘ roles was as the mountain man Zeb McCahan [a role that he played in a made-for-tv movie and two mini-series].
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and fans of James Arness.
