Ace Atkins [writer] and Marco Finnegan [artist] the team behind the graphic novel Last Fair Deal Gone Down recently were interviewed by Alex Dueben for The Beat.

Last Fair Deal Gone Down…

It’s Christmas in New Orleans. For many, it’s the best season of the year. But instead of spending time with the people he cares about, Nick Travers is searching for the killer of his friend, Fats, one of the best saxophone players you could find in the Crescent City. At first it appears that Fats took his own life, but Nick quickly discovers that the saxophone is missing from Fats’ apartment and he hits the streets to track it down. He soon learns that there is more to the story than a simple suicide, and the woman who Fats had been paying to keep him company may hold the answers.

Last Fair Deal Gone Down will be the first in a series of Nick Travers graphic novel adaptations from 12-Gauge Comics― introducing the character and his stories to a brand new audience.

New Posters for AMC’s “Preacher”

Preacher on AMC is one of the strangest shows I’ve ever watched and I am totally diggin’ it.

Having never read the comic series (created by writer, Garth Ennis and artist, Steve Dillon) on which the show is based I didn’t know what to expect.

It sure wasn’t a small town preacher (who used to be a criminal) accidentally infused with a supernatural power.  And who would have guessed that the Preacher’s girlfriend (who was also his crime partner) would show up or that he would become best friends with a vampire (unlike any ever seen)?  Then of course, there’s the Saint of Killers, a gunfighter from the old west, recently returned to Earth from hell…

I’m going to keep my eye out for the comic series.

The Top Ten Toughest Heroines in Horror and SciFi

ComingSoon.net recently posted their choices for The Top Ten Toughest Heroines in Horror and SciFi.

Using just their list I would say the top three are Ripley from Aliens, Furiosa from Mad Max: Fury Road and Sarah Conner from Terminator 2.

My question is how could they not include: Lornetta “Mace” Mason from Strange Days, Charly Baltimore from The Long Kiss Goodnight and Michonne from The Walking Dead??

Dave Wachter and Jack Carter

Dave Wachter is back and he brought his take on Sly from the Get Carter. I met Dave several years ago and became an instant fan. I wasn’t the only one to discover Dave’s fantastic sketches! How can you not like a great guy who is a terrific artist?

It has become a HeroesCon tradition that I get  Dave to draw his take on Sly.  Somehow this one was never posted until now.

The Saviors by James Robinson and J. Bone

I am happy to see that The Saviors by James Robinson and J. Bone is getting a trade paperback release.  I’m a huge fan of the series.

The Saviors is a comic for mature audiences due to drug references and language.  If you’re a fan of 1950’s alien invasion movies [“I Married a Monster from Outer Space,” “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,”etc.] or well written, well drawn comics, then The Saviors is for you.

When Tomas Ramirez stumbles upon an extraterrestrial conspiracy to take over the world, his life is forever altered. Now he’s banding together with those other few souls who share the knowledge that we are under attack as they attempt to defeat a shadowy alien cabal that is both indestructible and eager to kill anyone who threatens it.

Carver: A Paris Story by Chris Hunt looks like a fun ride.

After an absence of five years, globe trotting and notorious gentleman of fortune Francis Carver returns to Paris in 1923. He has come back to aid Catherine Ayers, the wife of a wealthy Parisian socialite and the only woman he has ever loved. Her daughter has been kidnapped by the leader of a crazed anarchist gang, a man named Stacker Lee. In order to bring the girl home, Francis will have to crawl through the underbelly of the city while confronting the demons of his past, before being faced with a final choice: succumb to the man he has become, or take that mask off and be the hero he always wanted to be.

If you enjoyed Sin City, you’ll want to come back for a second anthology of Frank Miller yarns.  Rourke, Alba, Dawson, Willis and King all reprise their original roles.  Brolin is excellent as he  picks up the role played by Clive Owen and there is an explanation from the original Sin City stories explaining the change in his look.  Eva Green is perfect as Ava.  Gordon-Levitt is also a welcome addition to the cast.  I hope there won’t be a seven year gap until the next Sin City tale.

George Perez on Svengoolie!

Most every week at 10pm on Saturday my wife and I check out whatever monster movie that horror host Svengoolie is serving up on ME-TV.  Last week we were pleasantly surprised to see George Perez and his lovely bride featured.

Seems George and his better half also regularly tune in to Svengoolie.  They were shown wearing their Sven t-shirts along with the very cool art that George created for Svengoolie.  You can see a larger version here.

I wonder what surprises Svengoolie will offer up tomorrow night with Captive Wild Woman.
