The new Red Dawn trailer looks pretty good, don’t ya think?

Although I haven’t watched it in years, I was a fan of the original Red Dawn. Released in 1984, Red Dawn starred Patrick Swayxze, C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson, Charlie Sheen, and Jennifer Grey before they had reached the height of their fame,
Ben Johnson, Harry Dean Stanton, Ron O’Neal, William Smith, Powers Boothe and Frank McRae also had roles and gave the movie the gravitas it would have otherwise lacked.
If the new Red Dawn looks half-way interesting, I think I’ll check it out. If not, then it’s time to fire up the original.

On February 9, 2012, we posted that Tony Moore, the original artist of the hit comic book series The Walking Dead had sued long-time [former?] friend, Robert Kirkman. Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead, claiming that he [Moore} was in truth the co-creator of the series.
A few days later Kirkman’s response was in the news.
At the time I had hope that Moore and Kirkman would be able to come to a mutually satisfactory solution soon. Unfortunately, that wasn’t to be. CBR.com has posted the complaint that Moore has now filed in federal court to be named co-author of The Walking Dead; Brit and Battle Pope.
I hate the reality of this situation.

I’m a huge Bob Peak fan. Back in the day, I also enjoyed watching Carter Country. So when I came across this Bob Peak TV Guide cover painting, how could I not post it?

If you’re a fan of Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein, and who isn’t, then you might want to check out Eddie Deezen’s profile of the film.
Thanks and a ladle of hot soup to Neatorama.

I like this new poster for Looper, If you do as well, and would like to see one so big it could run from the past to the future, you can right here, thanks to the fine folks at ComingSoon.

The new trailer for the crime thriller Killing Them Softly is perfect. I can not wait to see this movie.
Killing Them Softly is based on a George V. Higgins crime novel and set in New Orleans, and follows professional criminal, Jackie Cogan as he investigates the robbery of a high stakes, mob-protected, poker game. It stars Brad Pitt, Ray Luotta, James Gandolfini and Sam Sheppard and opens October 7th.
I’ll save you a seat.

I don’t know what prompted the idea of this “Last Supper” Expendables 2 banner, but I sure dig it. Check it out at full size to enjoy the details. – Craig

Phil Hester writes and draws comics for a living. Phil was a guest at MegaCon this year and I hopped to get a sketch from him. As you can see, mission accomplished. What was great was Phil knew exactly what I was looking for and delivered big time. You can follow Phil on Twitter. You’d be crazy not to. – Craig

The buzz on the new Dredd film is that it’s a throwback to the action films of the 80’s (where have we heard that before?), very violent (well, it is Judge Dredd after all) and very good (one can hope).

We’re less than three weeks away from the opening of Expendables 2 and this overseas poster is just what the doctor ordered!

I really enjoyed Who is Jake Ellis? by Nathan Edmondson (writer), Tonci Zonjic (artist). So you’d probably think that I’m happy that Edmondson and Zonjic are coming back with a sequel (Where is Jake Ellis?), right? Well, if you thought that, you’d be right. I am really looking forward to it.
Read this interview with Nathan Edmondson and you’ll get a feel of what we can expect when Jake Ellis returns.

This week we have Michael Duron and his take on Sly as Jack Carter. Michael is from Florida and I met him at OrlandoCon where he was nice enough to fit me in on his sketch list. You can see more of Michael’s art at his site.

Crime fiction / Howard Chaykin fans, here’s a heads-up: Chaykin’s Marked Man graphic novel [he wrote and did the art for it] that was serialized in Dark Horse Presents is set to return in a hard cover edition. As you can tell from the book’s description, this is not for kids:
“To the casual observer, Mark LaFarge has it going on. He’s got a beautiful wife, cute kids, a McMansion in the South Bay . . .The guy is the living embodiment of the American dream. But nothing is ever as it seems. LaFarge is a career criminal who’s never done an honest day’s work in his life . . . and that life of crime, completely separate from the life he presents to the world, is about to catch up with him. And there will be blood . . . a great deal of blood.”
My pre-order is set to go!
