Thomas Boatwright Gets Carter

This is the third, and at this point, last sketch by Thomas Boatwright that I have to post. My first was this First Blood piece. This sketch of Sly as Barney Ross from The Expendables was the second piece. I totally dig them all [although the Jack Carter is probably my favorite].

If you’d like to see more of Thomas Boatwright’s art check out his blog and his DA site. Send him some love. If you get commissions, you should consider a piece from Thomas. He keeps you totally in the loop on his progress, finishes his commissions on or ahead of schedule, has very reasonable prices and is a fantastic artist! – Craig

Famous Movies That Left Us Hanging

Cracked.com posted an interesting article about famous movies that left important plot threads unresolved.  The movies are “Spider-Man 3”, “The Wizard of Oz”, “The Shawshank Redemption”, “Fantastic Voyage”, “The Departed” and “Inception.”

I’ve seen all of the movies listed except for “Spider-Man 3” and in each case had totally missed the hanging thread.  Perhaps you did as well?  Check them out here, but be aware that there are spoilers.

Bodybuilders and Jack LaLane

I came across this photo of Jack LaLane yesterday.  It was in a photo series called Bodybuilders Through the Ages posted by the Smithsonian.com.

If you look closely at the photo you’ll notice that Mr. LaLane is wearing a handcuff on his right wrist.  Oh,  and that island you see in the background, that’s Alcatraz.  In 1955, at the age of 41 and while handcuffed, Jack LaLane swam from Alcatraz island to Fisherman’s Wharf.  Mr. LaLane did it again when he was 60!  While most folks would think that swimming from Alcatraz Island to Fisherman’s Wharf was a crazy stunt [at any age], to Jack LaLane it was just another way to celebrate a birthday.

Fight for the Troops 2 Results

Here are my predictions and the results for last night’s UFC Fight for the Troops 2:

  • Cole Miller vs. Matt Wiman
    Prediction: Miller wins via submission
Result:  Wiman via unanimous decision making me 0-1
  • Pat Barry vs. Joey Beltran
Prediction: Barry wins via TKO or KO.
Result: Barry unanimous decision making me 1-1
  • Mark Hominick vs. George Roop
    Prediction: Hominick wins by decision
Result: Hominick via TKO in Round 1 making me 2-1
  • Matt Mitrione vs. Tim Hague
Prediction: Mitrione wins by early TKO/KO or ugly decision
Result: Mitrione via TKO (punches) in Round 1 making me 3-1
  • Melvin Guillard vs. Evan Dunham
    Prediction: Dunham wins via submission.
Result: Guillard via via TKO in Round 1 making me 3-2

Final Thoughts:

  • Matt Wiman shocked me with how easily he dominated Miller.
  • Pat Barry seemed be holding back on his kicks.  Once he started unloading them, he dominated.  So why did he wait until the 3rd round?
  • Matt Mitrione got a lot of praise after the fight for his improved footwork, handspeed and how he dominated the fight.  Sure, Mitrione won, but didn’t it sound like he was being over-hyped?
  • Melvin Guillard dominated the previously undefeated Evans.  Guillard said he will go undeafeated this year and will get a title shot in the not to distant future.  Based on his performance last night, Guillard may be right.

UFC Fights for Those Who Fight For Us

Tonight the UFC and SPIKE TV join forces to bring us free fights in an event that they’re calling Fight for the Troops 2.  Without further adu, here are my predictions:

  • Cole Miller vs. Matt Wiman: Although Miller looks more schoolboy than fighter, the kid is tough.
    Prediction: Miller wins via submission.
  • Pat Barry vs. Joey Beltran: If you’re looking for a knockout, then this is the fight to watch.
Prediction: Barry wins via TKO or KO.
  • Mark Hominick vs. George Roop: Not much to say other than…
    Prediction: Hominick wins by decision
  • Matt Mitrione vs. Tim Hague: I’m hoping for some fireworks in this one… the question is whether they will have enough gas in their tanks if an early KO doesn’t come.
Prediction: Mitrione wins by early TKO/KO or ugly decision
  • Melvin Guillard vs. Evan Dunham: I am not a Guillard fan, but I will admit he has looked good in some of his recent outings.  With that said…
    Prediction: Dunham wins via submission.

I’ll post the results tomorrow.

Blood Out Welcomed In

I’ve never heard a word about “Blood Out” until I say the poster above.  Odds are it’ll be a “drive-in” movie or what folks today would call straight-to-dvd.  Still, there’s nothing wrong with an action-packed B movie and that’s exactly what “Blood Out” looks to be.  So, yeah, I’ll give it a shot when I get the chance.
