Tron: Saul Bass Style

I’ve never had any desire to see Tron. Perhaps I would have, had it been made in the sixties with a Saul Bass title treatment.

Not even this poorly done, boring poster for Iron Man 2 has the power to make me NOT want to see the movie! In fact, I think today’s Iron Man 2 poster is even worse than this Iron Man 2 anticipation killer. Yet, I still look forward to seeing Iron Man 2.

TVGuide.com just posted a piece titled Elmore Leonard: Justified Gets It Just Right. I’m happy that Elmore Leonard, who wrote the novella that the series is based on, is as happy with the show as the rest of us [on the night it premiered it ranked No. 1 on cable in overall viewers and in its time slot beat the broadcast networks among men 18-to-49]. I was was even happier to learn that…
…Leonard has begun work on a new Raylan Givens story which he hopes might inspire plots for the show’s second season, if FX renews the series… And if they don’t, Leonard says he will pen a couple more Raylan stories and publish a collection.

I found this video of Jack Webb Schooling President Obama about health care, over at my buddy, Chad “The World’s 134th Most Dangerous Man” Hunt’s Facebook page. It made me chuckle because it works so well. So this one goes out to John Beatty, Rob Smith, and anyone with a sense of humor.

Earlier today AMC ordered six episodes of The Walking Dead based on Robert Kirkman’s comic series. Frank [The Mist; The Shawshank Redemption] Darabont is writing and directing the pilot for an October premiere.

The red band trailer for Survival of the Dead is now available.

Francesco Francavilla recently posted a teaser for the third issue of Garrison. [For those coming in late, Garrison is the world’s most dangerous man.] That’s a partial look at the third cover for the six issue mini-series. If you haven’t already, you might want to let your local comic shop know if you’re interested.

Today we have Jack Carter as drawn by Dick “The Brush” Giordano. I’m sad to say that Mr. Giordano passed away yesterday. Dick Giordano was, in addition to being an amazing artist, a true gentleman and wonderful human being.
This piece was gifted to me by my buddy, Steve Lipsky, who is also a pretty nice fellow.

Frank Mir dislikes Brock Lesnar. Watch this video and you’ll hear Frank explain why.
Original video link: Fight Magazine.
Mir also talks about why Carwin is more dangerous than Lesnar and how both of them could beat him. The funny thing is, although I’m writing this several days before the fight, by the time you read this, we’ll know if Carwin was able to beat Mir.

Dick Giordano passed away today. He was considered a legend in the comic business having literally done it all over the course of his long career. Many learned of Mr. Giordano’s passing through an e-mail sent out by his good friend and fellow artist, Bob Layton. Here’s how Bob broke the news:
Dear Friends & Colleagues,
It is my sorrowful duty to announce that legendary artist/editor/entrepreneur Dick Giordano passed away today. Few could ever hope to match what he accomplished in his chosen profession, or to excel while maintaining great humor, compassion for his peers and an unwavering love for the art form. His unique vision changed the comic industry forever and all of those who work in the business continue to share in the benefits of his sizable contributions.
I have been honored to call him a business partner, mentor and dear friend throughout the majority of my lifetime. We will not see his like again.
Regretfully,
Bob Layton
I’m honored to have met Dick Giordano several times over the years. He was always gracious and kind. As many of you probably know I have several Dick Giordano “Demolition Man” headsketches in my collection. Mr. Giordano did them in preparation for his work on the comic book adaptation of the movie. Last week, I received another headsketch drawn by Mr. Giordano. This sketch is Dick’s take on Sly as Jack Carter. It was gifted to me by my buddy Steve Lipsky [who also owns the sketch on today’s post]. I plan to post the Jack Carter piece with tomorrow’s update.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Giordano’s family, friends and fans.
Bob Layton is right, we will not see the like of Dick Giordano again.

Up to now everything I’ve seen promoting or about the soon-to-be-released movie, The Losers, has been pretty cool. Except for the tag line…
Anyone else would be dead by now
… I’m just not diggin’ this poster. Maybe it’s just me, but it looks like something for a kiddie movie. Am I wrong?

This motion poster [on display at IMPAwards.com] for The Other Guys is really cool and pretty funny to boot. I love the possibilities.
